Engine problem. please help

Ok im sorta new to these cars so bear with me. I have a 91 non turbo rx-7. When i accelerate smoothly there seems to be no problem and it drives normally, but when i "stomp it" or accelerate quickly the car wants to die. This happens even when i rev the engine in neutral. I was wondering where i should start and are there any "common" problems like this. any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

also anyone give a pointer to a good online performance part site?

How does the car idle? That sounds like a TPS problem because, this is assmuing the operation of the TPS is somewhat similar to the Haltech, when you stomp on the gas the air gets in faster than the fuel so the car stumbles untiil it can catch up. The TPS compensates for that by reading where your foot is and when it suddenly moves it squirts some gas in.

You may need to set your TPS, for directions on that you can either check my site or search the forums.

the car idles pretty rough. the acceleration is real smooth when i slowly accelerate. it is only when i try to get on it that it wants to die.

I would say set the TPS per instructions and see if that cures it.

about the TPS

the local parts store said that the tps would run me a little over 300.00 do you know anywhere else to get them cheaper? 300.00 is a bit much for me at the moment for it to turn out not being broken. That would really suck.

Oh, and might i add.... thanks for responding and helping me so far.

TPS's are stupidly expesive so either go to a junkyard and try to find one, pretty hard to do, or find someone on here to get one from. But before you shell out any money make sure it is good! I have a how-to to test them on my site. Your TPS may not be bad, just out of whack.

My plug is M.I.A.

Beside the alternator there is a group of wires and it looks like a mess. there are little electrical crimp connectors on each wire. As if they snipped all the wires and connected them manually. If you need a pic i can get it to ya tomarrow "I let a friend borrow my camera"

Replied to your PM... the info at the link *is* correct. It applies to all FC motors - the one in the pics is a TII. :)

Vacume lines may be callapsing--or bad fuel flow(filter-pump)
Mine did the same thing--not exactly what my tech did but cost me $150.
Dosn't do it any more--that is what he said he would check.
