engine problem
hey guys i got a problem maybe you guys can help. i left my na alone for awhile so it was sitting in my garage for like 3-4 months? and when i try to crank her over, she'll make the sounds but she wont. a few seconds later white smoke comes out my exhaust, which means my engines flooded right? i tried the spark plug trick where you pull one out and crank it to get the stuff out, but when i do that and put the spark plugs back in, and check em again, the tip is trenched with gas. anybody know the problem? just in case its a 91 n/a. if somebody can help me it be a big help.

1 word hook up a fuel cut swich, im sure there is a write up i found one when i did mine but it was a while ago. after your done (turn on the key then turn on the swich, start to crank it over turn the swich off untill it starts then turn the fuel back on) that always worked for me, let me know if it works
EDIT: when i get my car here, i will tell you what wire to cut in 2! and put a swich to... monday is the D day lol but he said that 3 weeks ago. so.. well LATA! |
pop the hood, pull the fuse box cover on the left strut tower, remove the fuse closest to the engine and crank the bitch over for 10 seconds while holding your foot to the floor with the accelerator. turn the key off, install the fuse and put your foot back on the accelerator and hold that bitch down, crank the ho over and hopefully she cooperates.

^the way karack said is best, if youve got two people you can make it much simpler though, have someone pull that fuse, put pedal to floor crank for 10-15 seconds and have them put the fuse back in while still cranking, works every time, but if your by yourself, just use the procedure he said.

just my opinion, i wouldn't pop the fuse in while cranking as it can kill the tachometer. it causes a spike in the ignition which can travel up to the tachometer and kill it.

ahh, ive done it.... well hundreds of times, no tach problems, guess i got lucky a lot. but then again im lucky overall with my fc's, their very reliable to me hehe.

This is why if you pull the top TWO fuses, this will prevent the tach from dying all the time. -Ted |
well i gave Karack thing a try, and nope. but its getting close though, she sounds like she wants to start, its to close haha. but yea no dice. and the fuel cut switich thing slip_N_slide83 told me, i have no clue how or what to do heh. would a basic rebuild fix this problem??

i use a fuel cut switch so i forget easily, my point was to be more cautious when using the fuse method.

well, the best way to do it if it still wont start, remove all 4 plugs and egi fuse, hold gas pedal to floor and crank for 20-25 seconds, then replace plugs put in egi fuse and crank it up. make sure your not using those shit ass autolite spark plugs, my first FC wouldnt start for that reason, put NGK's in after like 3 shops looked at it and it started up right away.

a little 2 stroke oil in the spark plug holes helps to build compression, you could also use ATF but i try to stay away from the stuff when working with engine internals.
