what are good compression numbers in psi? i think that is the right term.

congrats n4ji. let us know what she feels like.

n4ji 10-21-03 03:34 PM

YEAH BABY!!!

n4ji 10-21-03 03:37 PM

A great rotary should have about 100psi on each rotor, anything less then 80 is in need of a rebuild.

cloead 10-21-03 04:57 PM

nah still doesnt run.. its a mystery

took it to a mazda dealer because i was stumped.. theyve had it for 2 weeks and cant find anything wrong yet

GEINN FC3S 10-21-03 05:43 PM

where can i get a compression tester? and how much do they run for?

n4ji 10-21-03 10:10 PM

Compression testers are relatively expensive I believe. Just take it to a car dealer (preferably Mazda) and they can run a test for around $70.

cloead 10-21-03 10:40 PM

nah dude compression testers are like 20 bucks around hurr =/

n4ji 10-21-03 10:42 PM

Blasphemy! I was talking to a guy at Tom Wood Mazda (right down the street) and he said they cost $74! I hope you get your TII running again, it was a fun car to drive when I went and saw it over the summer.

cloead 10-21-03 10:46 PM

lol well the tester i got was that cheap, it sucks but it works.

yeah it was fun to drive for the one day i was able to drive it! :)

you must be thinking of standard pressure gauge testers. The mazda tester is a proprietary tester for rotary engines and definatly cost more than $20

Hmm, you would think that maybe Mazda would write down compression test procedures and standards somewhere, like in a service manual or something like that. Oh well, since nothing like that exists, I will guess that those numbers were probably the deflections of your fan belts in mm, which means that they are a bit tight, but the AC compressor belt is fine if it was the one with the 7.9 reading.
