Engine Mount Question??
 

Can you put the new RX8 motor in a second gen rx7 are the motor mounting brackets the same??? Because i am thinking of getting a new engine for mine and if the rx8 motor fits then it will be nice and spicy. :bigthumb:

But for real though like they said it won't fit, already looked at it myself, but you could have some custom mounts made so that it could fit.

^ As said here, no. Now, though, I have to ask the other stupid question, why would you want to have RX-8 mounts? They offer polyurethane mounts at http://www.banzairacing.net/parts/po...tor_mounts.htm for about $120 shipped in the US. That seems like more then enough for the street. If you go racing, I could see the use for solid aluminum mounts, but you would also have to do the trans, otherwise one end of the drivetrane flexes independent of the chassis and the other dosen't (bad thing).

heh, i have a street n/a with solid motor mounts, stock (original?) tranny and differential mounts. 1660 miles, no problems yet. :)

^ Okay, so maybe the problem isn't so pronounced on cars with low torque. The cars I play with this kinda stuff on it does matter. We broke 3 transmission housings on a '67 mustang before finding out that this was the problem (and a bent driveshaft...). But still, the point remains, it's not necissairly a good idea to run solid motor mounts with non-solid transmission mounts. The differential I couldn't care less about being that the drivetrane is attached with u-joints, so that moving dosen't phase me in the least.

Okay, so now that that is out, I think I explained why I said what I said. And also, if you haven't had problems, then stick with it, maybe these cars don't cause that much of a problem in that regard, I was just going off what I have had experiance with.

oh yea, i in no way was arguing with you, thats why i said "yet." it really came down to a money issue (typical FC owner, i know). i'm personal friends with Scalliwag (who most know as the guy who makes and sells solid motor mounts, tranny mounts, diff mounts, and SS OMP lines), but i wouldnt ask to take an IOU on tranny mounts. the solid mounts were done the same time as an engine rebuild, so it was the easiest time.
as for torque; 87GTR, i believe, broke stock mounts and then ran the solid mounts. torque is, for lack of a better term, a bitch. it breaks things. i like small cars that dont need as much torque to go just as fast. and yea, my little n/a isnt putting out gobs by any means.

What is the latest engine year that i can put into my 86 rx7??? That will fit good. without custom work????

with a few minor mods that take about 20 minutes of total work you can put in a series 5 engine. and if you want more info search, there are tons of threads on this.

^yeah cuz you can put a Vet engine in.. i say 93.. maybe even newer.. i say try to put a bmw m3 motor in the car..

The rx8 engine is not one you would want to swap in. Even if you could get motor mounts, engine management would be a nightmare. Plus that fact, you could get more power out of a peripheral exhaust port 13B for way less money.

So all is what i have to do is call the mazda dealer up and ask him for a 1993 series 5 engine??? and he will know what im talking about?

93 is series 6, so no, he will have NO idea what youre talking about.

Scalliwag - he's on the forum and on ebay (scalliwag performance or scalliwag_performance). tell him casio told you he makes the engine and tranny mounts.

probably not. In '93, all the engines were twin turbo's for the FD's. Alot different from ours in several respects. Also, the dealer will be a nightmare to deal with price wise. Just send your engine out to get rebuilt with ianetti 2-peice ceramic apex seals, all the race bearing setups, a nice (bridge) port job, balance the rotating assembally (rotors, flywheel, etc), and you'll still have money to spare over putting in an RX-8 or 13b-REW (thats the FD engine). I think you should do some more research in the stickies before planning all this stuff.

if you want a mazda engine, go in, tell them the year of your car, and they'll have all you need in their computer. its really that simple.
no rotary post series5 will fit for what youre asking. you have an 86, so you have a series 4. the series 5 would be "spicy," but its not made for your car. i dont know any troubles you would have with the block or tuning, so i cant even get into that. if you want a new engine, or factory reman, just hit up mazda. may wanna price-test, though.

Well i guess i could ask them. I just want something that fits nicely and has a little more power when coming stock. Ill ask them though. O hey do any of you guys know where i can get rear seatbelts for my 2+2??? i need both sides and in grey. :bigthumb: :D
