emmision problems...failed again!!

i took my car to get it emisions tested again and it failed. my first test it failed both low speed RPM test and high speed RPM test. the second time it only failed high speed RPM test. if you guys know anything about this please help me out. i can post numbers from the test if you want. i really dont want to take it to a shop and pay for it again. if you guys could help it would be great.

here are the numbers

reading limit
HC 475 200
CO 3.17 1.20

this is what i failed...unsure of what i can do from these readings..

I failed once, put a gallon of alcohol into a 1/4 tank and failed again. I said screw it and paid someone to pass me. It's probably a bad cat or airpump, and there's no sense in replacing them with a new unit unless you want to keep your car stock.

From the FAQ at the top of the page. Written by me!

My car is having trouble passing emissions, but I have new spark plugs, filters, cats, etc. What do I do?
J-rats Recipe for cheating emissions if its ABSOLUTELY necessary:

1. Turn variable resistor to full lean, or as lean as you can get and still run.
2. Trick ACV into pumping air to the cat all the time by removing the FORWARD UPPER vac hose, and capping it.
3. Run 87 octane
4. Run your tank down till your almost empty.
5. 2-3 bottles of alcohol in the tank. Drive VERY GINGERLY to the emissions station.
6. Once you pass go, DIRECTLY to a gas station and fill up with regular unleaded.

1) pay the guy off
2) switch plates with another 7 that can pass
3) buy the friggin parts you need
4) register your car at an address that dosent have emissions

just go get a fake one (pay someone off)

Impreza2RX7 08-05-04 04:21 AM

Just pay someone, I did everything that was stated above. I changed my plugs, wires, fluids, 02 sensor, checked my timing and TPS, and still failed. If you have a functional cat, you wouldn't have a problem. just pay the guy and start modding.. :)

Hate to hijack the thread, but what's a general price on a pay-off smog job?

Impreza2RX7 08-05-04 04:30 AM

Depends on the tech, i paid 50 including the smog test

Too bad in some states they are State run emissions stations, and paying them off isnt an option;

I'm amazed nobody has suggested actually looking for the problem. It only takes one faulty component in the emission control system to cause a failed test, and it's quite likely you'll be able to find used replacement parts at a wrecker or in the for sale section. There's a complete how-to on testing these systems in the FSM.

I paid a MD emissions guy off for $20
