Electrical or Mechanical Gauges?
Which one do you guys prefer and why?
Just trying to figure out which gauges people like better before I go out and buy some. |
Electric all the way.
Electric. always.
why electric? i thought mechanical were more accurate? thats what most told me when i asked a couple months ago on this same board
Thats exactly what I am tring to figure out:)
machanical are cheaper and i think just about as accurate. and i dont have alot of money i need to save as much money as i can wile doing a good job.
hope that makes sence |
you can get away w/ some mechanical guages...like boost, vac and such....but would you really want oil/coolant coming into the passenger compartment in case one broke?
Exactly. I dont need 160F oil with 80psi pushing it coming into the passanger compartment.
I like mechanical because you can tap them to stock wire's and sensors. Electric just seems like a lot more work
I like my electrical personally..
Exactly, my friend had a mechanical oil pressure gauge in his 79 camaro. He was driving and heard this *slurp* *pop* *slurp* lol. He didn't know what it was until his engine stalled. Than he realised he had 5 quarts of oil in his passenger seat area/floor pan. That was 2 years ago and the carpet is still oily.
Guess I am going to buy electric. From Summit Electric is cheaper than mechanical. Also why do you say electric is harder than machanical to install?
Ive gone electric with my gauges.
electric is way easier to install. better readings (uses the whole gauge instead of 1/4 of it) is much safer (nothing comming into the car) for drag tracks you are not allowed on with mech oil / water gauges unless you use SS lines which are like 2x more then the price of a gauge.

Electrical...
I had a write-up, but my page is down... *sigh* -Ted |
arg, I know, your page was great.
