Electrical Gremlins

Hey all

Been a several years since ive been on here.. but im back now trying to keep another FC on the road.

s5 motor
haltec sprint RE ECU

what is happening is that my alternator is spiking to 16volts.. i cant tune it as the sensors shut off at 15v.

any suggestions would be great. if you need more info about the build let know thanks. :)

Satch and Clokker im talking to you two.. so chime in if you guys are still on here

Wouldn't spiking like that suggest a faulty internal regulator?

im using a custom engine harness from the sprint re. but I guess I could check what regulator is being used.

The regulator is internal to the alternator, I don't think your ECU has anything to do with it.

oh you mean THAT regulator lol

ive seen this issue fixed by replacing the pully on the alternator lol dont even know how thats possible. but ill see what i find already swapped out a bunch of parts.

You could change the pulley size, but that would just change the point in the rev range where it over-volts. You wouldn't be fixing anything, just giving yourself more voltage problems. The voltage regulator hes talking about is the little black box marked by number 8 in the picture. If you could get ahold of a new voltage regulator, its an easy part swap. Or you could just replace the whole alternator.
