electrical fire problems

Yesterday the clutch pedal rubbed through a large wiring harness underthe dash and started a small fire. it only seems to have burned through the insulation on one wire so I tucked it back farther away from thepedal andeverything seemed to work. But today the wipers won't turn on at all. They've been working on only one speed because of a bad relay but they do nothing now, and it's raining outside. should i open up the dash and test/replace the relays or should i concentrate my efforts on trying to patch the wiring harness? Anyone had this or something similar happen?

Fire means short. Short means that whatever circuit it was, the little guys like diodes and the smaller relays take the hit. Could be the wiper switch. No fuses blew?

Like Wayne said. Start with the fuses. Since the pedal is grounded to the body, it's most likely that the fuse for the wiper circuit blew. If so, after replacing it, the wipers should work as they did before. Start with the simple things first, before you go looking for the complicated stuff.

yeah, i checked all the fuses first thing and they're all fine, (forgot to mention that), then i decided to check other things like the rear wiper and other switches on the right side of the gauge pod, and everything works again... i'm assuming this means there's a short somewhere and no issues with relays, i'll be doing some wiring repair this weekend
