Electrical/Engine Problem?

I have been having problems with my car Discharging its batery. If i charge it up and run it for a day it will be fine, but when i leave it over night next day its flat.

I have had a realy good look at the car for things left on etc and there is nothing, but saying that when the ignition is of there is a strange Electrical noise coming from under the IC (its quiet but sounds like a small fan).

My first thought is that i have a dodgy relay or somthing like that but i am not good at Electrical work and i dont want to set the thing on fire.

Any idears?

Thanks.

Try disconnecting your battery one night and see if it still has power the next day. Then you would know that you do indeed have a power drain, rather than a bad battery. Other than that I dont have any helpful advice for you. Electrical problems are such a pain!

If its good the day after doing the above, try disconnecting the large altenator wire for the nite. It could be the diode has gone bad in it and is causing the discharge.

I tryed the diconecting the battery last night and it was fine so i think its somthing discharging it.

There is a realy funny thing with it though there is a noise coming from under the IC when the Ignition is off (sounds like a relay clicking very fast or a small fan)

this car had a near death experiance about a week ago when the water pump dvive belt went, but i think i spoted it before any damage was caused. Could this have anything to do with it?

Normally, on my '91 TII the factory boost controler will click with the ignition ON. It is on the drivers side where the oil fill is. Blue and has two vaccum lines going into it.

Anytime there is a drain you shold be doing a current draw test. Use a Digital Multi-meter (available at any radio shack) and test the draw.

BTW: if the battery has been completely discharged more than 4 or 5 times it more than likely is bad or going bad and will need to be replaced.

Ok i have conected a meter between the Batery post and the disconected Neg Clamp, It was reading 12v so there is a power to ground somwhere.

I then pulled the fueses one by one untill the reading changed, the only fues that made and diffrence was one in the main box this was "Head 30A" which i belive is the head lights or the lifter motors.

I have had problems a few months ago with the Switch in the car, it would make a funny arcing noise only on Main Beam and one light would go up and one down with no lights on. Could this have anything to do with it as the problem went away?

Now the next part of the problem is that the noise i heard from under the Ic was coming from the BAC valve, i took the Ic off and went around all the things it could be checking and the noise went when i diconected it. But there was no diffrence in the meter reading so i think its more a symptom than the fault.

Any idears? i cant see any broken wires and i am runing out of idears.

O yeh i would like to point out i have bought a new battery and had the Alternator checked. There was no problem there?

After another few hours playing i have found if i pull the Main fues "Head 30A" the meter drops from 12v to 9v and i dont know what its suposed to do (the manual says Headlights) but every thing seems to be working even when the Fuse is'nt in.

I also found when the "Head 30A" Fuse is in the relays on the side of the engine (your drivers side) all click when you reconect the battery, is this suposed to happen with the Ignition off? I was led to belive there should be no power to the engine when the Ignition is off?

So what i would like to know is if any of you have T2's is this suposed to happen? and do you know what the main "Head 30A" Fuse does? O and any Idears>
