You have multiple ploblems. Most sound like connecton problems. What you want is clean shinny bright metal-to-metal contact.
The brake light is very direct from battery to fuse to pedal switch to lights to ground. No extra switches, relays, or interlocks.
There are two switches on the brake pedal. The front one is for the starter interlock. the rear one is for the light switch, with a jumper to the cruise control.

Cleaning & reseating connectors should fix most problems.
Sometimes where connector pins are soldered to circuit boards, the solder joint can crack.
Do a search for "cold solder joints" for the fix.
