electric power steering?

I've spoken briefly with someone recently about a weird concept, (or at least new to me)
electric power steering....from what I understand, this basically just clears up space in the engine bay. I've been told that a good option for an fc RX7 is an electric pump out of an old MR2.

I guess I'm just looking for any more info on this. do you guys think its worth the time and effort? are there any other advantages\disadvantages to an electric steering pump?

You don't need power steering at all so converting to alternate power source is unnecessary.

If not, the mr2 pump swap is very common among all cars in general. There are plenty or write ups all over the internet of people putting them in their cars and getting the load sensing to work or just putting it on a switch.

the Rx8 setup might be an option too, its just the rack and controller

the guy who bought one of my old FCs did this conversion, may want to check in the v8 section of the forum or over at norotors.com

Two easy/fairly straight forward options are just speed controlled PWM output to an MR2 or similar pump, there are also column assists such as DC Electronics systems (I've run one of their larger ones, going to try a Microsteer on the next race car).
