ok i'm going to the junkyard tommorow which electric fan should i get? i've heard ford taurus but what yeah and what other fans are good?

92-96 Escort. It has a low and a high speed setting (2 different power connecters so you just switch which one you're using to change between low/high), so in the winter you can use low and spring/summer high. Works really well for me, moves tons of air.

Funny thing is I came on to post this same question. Just thought I would share that.

anything at least 15", preferrably s-blade.
i use one from an olds achieva automatic...had to get a little bit creative mounting it, but it turned out great. also fiero fans are good (the 15" ones), and taurus obviously.

i hope you know what you are doing otherwise you will wind up with a dead FC.

if you plan on removing your stock fan and running an e-fan if you wire it improperly and you lose it it won't take much to overheat your engine, if your engine isn't a fresh rebuild i don't think it would like being overheated even once..

i always advise against doing mods like these unless you are competent in your abilities, only reason i brought it up was your sig. too many things in there that make me wonder.

sorry to be harsh but i would hate to see you make a costly mistake.

I've had no problems with my efan. Just learn to check your temperature every so often, if it gets hot then pull over and turn your car off, simple. I use the thermostat switch from JCWhitney and it works wonderfully, way better than the POS black magic one did I originally got. I also have an autometer water temp gauge measuring at the block that I keep an eye on too. Just like looking down to check your speed, I just got in a habit to check my temps (I have oil temp gauge too). Never had any problems with any temps since I've gone efan, except for when I was running the black magic thermostat, on the way to school the temps got close to a range I didn't really want to be in so I pulled over, turned the car off, changed the black magic thermostat to be at the lowest temp to turn on, and it essentially made it run on all the time. I ran it like this till I got my new thermostat switch and it's been awesome.

it really isnt that hard to wire one up...what...you have to know how to wire a relay...thats about it. thermoswitches usually come with instructions anyway.

by the way, unless you are using a thermoswitch, dont bother with the whole project. the thermostatic control is the only thing that makes it worth while... otherwise youre hurting not helping.

Any V6 GM has the famous "Fiero" fan on it. P6K (Pontiac 6000), big Oldsmobiles, Pontiac Grand Am/Grand Prix/big Sunfire, etc.

So does the electric fan help? I always thought it should be as efficent as the clutch fan but then ddub talks about having to pull over and let it cool down. I am currently lookign at a few on ebay. WHAT si a good compnay for an aftermarket if i were to gte one. Zirgo, flex-a-lite, spal.... I see them all in the $75 range.

IF is the key word here. I didn't say I do that, I have absolutely no problems with cooling in my car. I did at one point when I used a POS black magic thermostat switch but I decided to take that out and put a generic one in from JCWhitney instead. The black magic one was not working properly so it was taken out in a matter of a couple days from install, the JCWhitney one works perfectly.

In that case please comprehend more carefully, I was saying that I had these problems with a malfunctioning thermostat switch, with a proper WORKING one I have had zero problems.

I was saying just get in the habit of watching your temps just like your speed, this should be something you do with the stock fan anyways! Like, paying attention to what's going on with your car...

The clutch fan is fine, no real reason to ditch it unless you want the extra room, your clutch fan goes out, or you need it gone because it is in the way of something. Otherwise there is no gain either way, less draw on the engine (barely noticeable) but more draw on the electrical system. You don't get something for nothing.

I think Ddub was saying that the thermostat switch sucked that he had and wasn't cutting on when it should so of course the temps are going to be hot. However if you get the right temp switch along with the right fan you should be fine.

There's no point in going for an electric fan unless you need the space in front of the engine, or your stock fan is broken. This has been discussed many times.

I did search, i just wrote here to really ask about the companys i listed.,if they were anygood, or better than a junkyard fan. Are brand slike zirgo, flex-a-lite,spal worth the extra money?

Before the junkyard efan era, flex a lite was the efan for the rx7's! I have been using one for over decade without any problems, except for the thermoswitch that died, wich means that the efan is on at all times.

ive had decent luck with spal. dunno about zirgo. never bought a flexalite, but they have a pretty good reputation. that said, i go for the junkyard fans every time.

I run my stock fan most of the time..... I only put the black magic on when the temps drop below 55 Degrees.... Can't beat the stock fan for cooling on theos ehot muggy PA days... Plus... it keeps air going through the FMIC so it doesn't heatsoak while sitting at a light!!!!
