hey guys is there an electric fan on the oil cooler or something? Is this a turbo kinda thing? I have a 91 NA and I keep seeing in my service manual that there is an electric fan somewhere and I don't/didn't have one. any help is much appreciated.

There was a small fan mounted towards the passanger side in the space between the bumper and the radiator, IIRC it was on all turbo models and on N/A's equipped with A/C, but it's been discussed before and more information could be found with a search.

theres 2 fans blowing opposite directions ones for a.c. the other is for cooling sys.

They are not blowing in opposite directions...

The auxiliary electric fan is fitted directly in front of the A/C condensor and is triggered any time the A/C operates or if engine coolant temp reaches 207degF. Not all FC's had it.

Thanx NZ... Anyone happen to have pics available of the fan, where it hooks up and such? I don't know if I am supposed to have one on my car... But I would almost assume yes.

do you have A/C? if you look through the front grill opening in the front bumper you should see it to the left side of the A/C condenser. if there is no fan the "cooling fan" light will come on on the idiot cluster.

if you want oil cooler fans just get 2 120mm computer fans and wire them up to a power source

Yeah, I just recently pulled my radiator out and I found TWO electric fans mounted in front of
the radiator. The PO removed the a/c condenser so now I'm just confused. Maybe it came with
one and he tried to mount a second one for extra cooling?

EDIT: I tested both of them and they were dead. The wiring for them on the car seemed
like he did it himself.

hell ive got like four computers with no hard drives/processors...would this help much for cooling?

wtf? how the hell are computer fans going to push close to enough air to make any sort of noticeable temperature change?

120mm fans are HUGE and will run at like 2500RPM which will move significant amounts of air with 2 of them. I thought about doing that already, just wondered if anyone else had.

I noticed in the service manual that it shows fans in there and I don't have a single fan in there that is electric, altho I did notice a connection that is there for "some reason" now I know why.

Two really high quality 120mm computer fans will push out 250-300 cfm... pretty good numbers.

I've got the fan sitting in my garage. P/O took it out when the A/C compressor siezed. On a side note, he stuck it in a cardboard box and put a car battery in it for power and used it as a hovercraft. It went over carpet, so its got some major power.

SO your saying that a stock cooling fan was able to elevate a car battery off the ground? BS

Maybe he just attatched the wires to it. That does make more sense now that I think about it.

So, theoritically, if you remove the ac condenser and attatch this fan you could turn the fan on by pressing the AC button for extra cooling on a hot day. Would this work, or does it need all of the other components to complete the circuit?

I dunno... I looked in the spot where sideways7's connecter was and all I find it a white T-shaped connector that is taped to one of my horn wires, not the horn that goes for security. I have a 91 NA, so I don't know if that matters but I do know that I don't see a connector for the fan unless its a T-Shaped connection on my year.

Actually, it might be T-shaped. I'm up at school now and wont be home till 10:30 or so to check.

would be great to find out if thats the plug. then I just need to find the fan :D

A little off topic here, but I've use smaller fans to make hovercrafts that lifted me as a kid (maybe 80 LBs or so).

And how long do you think those fans are going to last exposed to the elements?

It would work, it would be very simple to do and you wouldn't need to remove the A/C compressor, but it's also completely unnecessary. The thermoclutch on the stock fan responds to the temp of the air coming off the radiator, so on a hot day when this air will be hotter the clutch will engage earlier to provide the necessary cooling. The same would occur if you've replaced the stock thermoclutch fan with e-fan and thermoswitch. If that's still not enough and the temp gets to 207degF then the auxiliary electric fan will turn on automatically. There's no need to add any manual control.
