I believe I can officially say I have the worst luck ever.
I just fixed my oil leak and go to run the car and make sure its all good. The main power line I have running from my battery to my fuse boxe to run my Haltech, fuel pump, injectors, ignition goes up in smoke. Luckily I have a junction that runs from the battery to another wire that ends at the firewall so only 4 feet of wire burned up and not 10 feet. I have no idea why exactly it happened but im certainly not in good spirits about it. These leads me to a question I asked in another thread that no one answered for me but could be a small link to why it happened. Why when I start my car the voltage reads low until I rev the engine til about 2400 rpm. I hear a relay go off and the alternator power kicks in? |

Was the bolt for your "junction" loose or shorting out?
|
Nope, not loose. Was well wrapped in electrical tape and had shrink wrap so no shorting.

The ring terminals were just taped and heat shrieked together?

The alternator can self excite itself when reved. Normally speaking, the alternator should be excited when the engine is started. If you have an S4 alternator then the W/B wire should have very low voltage w/key to on and connected to the alternator, otherwise it would output 12 volts when unplugged. And the B/W wire supplies the switched 12 volts. If one of these wires is not operating properly then the alternator will not excite itself to begin with.

Found cause. Main battery ground at the starter was loose.
