EGT in downpipe?
Would there be any benefit to putting an EGT sensor in the downpipe? Or does it need to be before the turbo?

Pretty sure it needs to be after the turbo....but not in the downpipe. I'm wanting to say it needs to be 18-24 inches away from the turbo.

actually it doesn't *really* matter, either will give you a temp reading, before the turbo will just be about 100 degrees hotter. The biggest thing you're after, or so Im learning, is to catch the changes made when tuning. Adjustments to timing can be picked up by the EGT more so than WB02...its a supplemntary tuning tool.

Good price too, you're hard pressed to find a single EGT (they NEVER read to 2000 either) with probe, wires, gauge for much less either.........love that pineapple :) |

I'm running the Zeitronix wide band with the LCD display that will log EGT on the lap top software. Everything I read says to put the EGT before the turbo, but most of the info. I've found was on diesel sites.

Well it really doesn't matter. As said, the differential is what matters most.
I.e. - say the probe is pre-turbo and you have a WOT EGT of 1850....then you take out some timing and the EGT's climb....that will indicate that you've retarded too far and now the fuel is burning in the exhaust... There is *apparently* many confusing quirks about EGT and I myself am fairly new to it, however I can say that either position will give you what you want, which is to know what happens to the EGT's when changing timing and fuel. |

Mine is in the DP, so far no problems and no complaint fromt he tuner.

i saw the ones pineapple was offering and they looked like airplane dual EGTs so i went looking around and found a number for ~$200 and less(with probes), not quite the great price everyone thought it was. :p:

I know rotaries run hotter but I plan to use the dual one and put one before the turbo so I know how hot it is and then one in the down pipe. Let us know what you do. Anyone bought the dual one yet? how well does it work? |

yea, not that the F and R would really matter much anyways since in my head the gauge would have to be horizontal to actually cause less confusion while thinking in regards to quick reference since in my head the top would be the front rotor and the bottom would be the rear.
