which EGT and Boost gauge to get?

I`m about to order dual gauge pod from autometer and EGT + vac/boost gauge. My first tough was to get everything relatively cheap from autometer, but since last talk with RETed i must find another way...

I was told that i should get EGT with more than 1600F (that autometer one will be gone after first redline or so..yeah, i got my entire catback even ends of N1 mufflers glowing red ;o)))

And that autometer boost gauge could be sometimes inaccurate up to +-3 psi what could be really bad...

So what u guys suggest in for good price and in 52mm size to fit that gauge pod ???

Please post exact types/part numbers and prices of gauges which u have in mind, even place where i should get them...thanks

I'm not sure what types of things you discussed with RETed, but the EGT reading will vary depending on where you put the probe and what kind of rotary engine you have. I would think that 1600 F should be fine for a turbocharged rotary, but you should probably get something that at least goes up to 1700 F for an NA.

I will be using a SPA Technique 52mm DG-111 Boost / EGT gauge which I purchased from Truechoice. I haven't tried it out yet, but it is very well made, and has two programmable warning lights, as well as two programmable outputs. If you do any type of racing, I'm sure that you know the value of the warning lights. It is also nice to have two gauges in the space of one, which keeps the dash from getting busy. I ordered a whole compliment of SPA dual gauges for my 20B car because there was no other way to get all the gauges that I wanted in the stock dash area.

Earlier today I found out that SPA Technique just upgraded their excellent dual gauges for 2002. The DG-111 has been replaced with the DG-211, which has selectable backlighting (red or green), and an extended temperature operating range (-20 to +70 C as opposed to the 0 to +50 C of the earlier gauges) which will help keep the LCD screen from temporarily washing out if your car has been parked in the hot sun. :) The DG-211 comes with a 16 Bar transducer and a 1750 F thermocouple. The nice folks at SPA have always answered my annoying technical e-mail questions promptly, so I recommend contacting them if you need more infomation. The new gauges are not on the website yet, but you can check out the specs on the previous Series 1 gauges which are similar.

You can also get EGT gauges, as well as a lot of other great stuff, from Aircraft Spruce. Whenever ordering aircraft electronics, be sure that they will work with your car's 12V DC electrical system, as many aircraft have 24V DC and/or AC electrical systems. Their catalog is free, so I don't see where you have much to lose. :)

Evil, how much u are payin for that SPA dual gauge ?
I was shopping really cheap, not dual gauges but dual pod and 2 gauges...autometer looked nice for me, i don`t like digital gauges...
I need some cheap but accurate enough, with needles ;o)
thanks

I got a special package deal on my SPA gauges about a year ago, so my pricing wouldn't be accurate. The DG-211 has a retail price of $349.00 USD. Before you guys gag on that price, note that this is for a gauge with TWO functions (Boost & EGT), plus sending units and two warning lights. The price isn't so bad when you consider what you get. You may want to check with Truechoice to see if you can get it for less, or maybe some type of package deal if you want a lot of gauges. Note that Truechoice doesn't list all of their products online, so you may need to call.

Yes, I understand that some people don't like digital gauges, and not everyone wants to spend that kind of money on their car. I have used the Autometer Ultra-Lite boost gauge with good results, and it's not very expensive. Whenever buying Autometer products, try to stick with the Pro Comp line (Pro Comp, Ultra Lite, and Carbon Fiber), as the other ones like Sport Comp are not made as well.

Those are pretty nice Evil. If I was going all out, id probably get those. However, im going to try to keep all my gauges the same color, and I like needles.

Im going for the Omori Series gauges. You can see them at www.omori-na.com They dont have any distributors up yet, so if you want some expect to pay an arm and a leg. Their distributors will be up within the next 7-10 days. They are VERY customizable. You can pick between black or white face, you can choose red, green, blue, or orange (stock) backlighting. You can also choose from a couple different color needles (white and red I think). Anyway heres some pics.

TonyTurboII 03-04-02 01:20 PM

Its way overpriced.

pd_day 03-04-02 01:23 PM

I can get them for 190 in a groupbuy

pd_day 03-04-02 01:24 PM

TonyTurboII 03-04-02 01:28 PM

Well thats not bad at all. Apexi makes good stuff, get it if you like the way it looks. Its good craftsmanship.

Excellent, Omori finally made it into the USA! I was trying to get an N1 gauge (turbo tachometer) from Omori Japan but they said that it was not a production item - maybe Omori NA will make it? Anyway, I have heard a lot of good things about these gauges. The colored gauges were offered only with metric calibrations, but maybe now they will also be available in 'Merican lingo now. :)

Jason has sold Omori gauges in the RX-7 store for a while now, and you can also check out the overseas Omori sites:

Yes, Jason previously sold the gauges, until the old North American (Importer?) fell through. A new one was established, and as I talked to them the other day, things between them and the Rx7 Store should be up and running shortly.
