EGR valve removal... can somebody explain this please
 

Can somebody explain how this would affect performance and what is the right way of doing it. Some people say to take it off completely and use a block-off plate and some say just leave it there and just plug the hoses. Which one is true?

Lesson: vacuum leaks can also be internal, so if you have a suspected vac leak, don't just look at the obvious. I had a bad diaphram on my 87na and put a screw in the output line FROM the solenoid to the egr valve. I did not care if the line that attaches to the egr or the nipple were left off. Didn't work anyway. Bought a new egr and I believe it cost around a hundred bucks plus. Forget. Another not so obvious potential for a vacuum leak on a turbo, is the air control valve, specificaly the switching diaphram inside the acv. At idle the switching solenoid routes a vacuum to the acv switching diaphram. If busted, as in brittle and broken due to the heat, then you have a vac leak just as disruptive as a vac hose left off a nipple.
