EGI blown?

I have an 89 GSL. It died on the way home one night. One minute I was cruising at 85 the next the idiot lights came in and the engine just died. It cranks but every time I try to start it the EGI fuse blows.
Where is the EGI located in the car and where can I get one repaired?

if all the idiot lights came on that means the Alt. belt broke. If the belt isn't broken then it is posiable that something internal on the Alt has failed. The only other thing i have to offer is check your codes.

The alt belt is fine. Will a broken alt belt cause the engine to stop? Also, I dont have any spark.

alternator belt brakes, then your car would be running off battery. that won't last very long, then your car will die. yeah, you kinda need the alternator.

which EGI fuse is gone?
the pink one on top or the green one?
had the same problem as u, it was a bad connection to the BAC, if that plug is lose, idle will drop and die, when u go crank it, it will blow the pink fuse,

no spark? hmm i don't kno

but the pink EGI fuse blew on me 4 times till i found out my BAC plug wasn't on..haha

let me know if that ur prob

nevermind, didn't read enough....so not the pink one , the green one eh..don't kno..haha..sorry guys

Where is the bac?

It is the pink fuse under the hood that blows.

Yes, I know that I need the alternator, however the fuse blowing and the car stopping was sudden and the battery was fully charged. I should have been able to drive the last 10 miles home on the battery charge.

How do I check the codes?
Thanks for all the suggestions.

i disconnected the air bypass solenoid valve and it started..so u might want to try that...u dont need the absv thats just for cold starts..but then i put everything back together..and its blowing them still so im not sure..u can try that though.

the bac is on the right side of the engine near the intake manifold it a long solinoid..my bet is your plug to the BAC is bad or came off, make sure all ur electrical is connected...or bad things will happen like to me..hhehe

good luck
