ECU Removed. Horn & Hazzard Flashers are now in-op
 

Why? Why would the original Mazda ECU control the horn and the hazzard lights? I thought this to be strange. I am not using the Mazda ECU but would like functionality of the two.

Before I just wire them up myself, is there an easy fix to regain functionality of the horn and hazzard lights without using the ECU?

Sorry to ask this, but are you maybe confusing the CPU with the ECU? Sorry, had to ask.

Yeah, you're getting confused between what Mazda calls the CPU (central processing unit) which has relays and PCBs for horn, hazards plus others and sits by the fusebox on drivers side, and the ECU (engine control unit or emissions control unit) which runs your engine and sits under plate under passenger side carpet. The two have nothing to do with each other. If your horn and hazards don't work there might be a problem with the CPU.

NZConvertible - Thank you. I believe the CPU has been unplugged. I thought the service manual meant the hazzard circutry was in the computer that controls the engine. I think I still have the CPU, but I don't have the ECU. Maybe it's an easy fix after all ! Much appriciated.

The engine is behind the axle centerline still. I know what my next project will be, maybe I shouldn't junk that 87 Sport that in my backyard :D

Node - I understand your disgust. If someone was taking about putting a SBC in my Buick Grand National, I would barf.

But there is a big difference between an '87 Grand National and all the RX-7's in the world.

Can't exactly go to any junk yard and find Buick GN's stacked 10 high... RX-7's though are a different story. Seems there was a problem with them rotaries being fragile. Nice cars, questionable drivetrain, for me. Now, what would be better than putting a legendary 500hp V6 Turbo motor into a great little sports car? Nuth'in!

I am not here to convert anybody. I am actually here to ask questions about this car I know nothing about. So what if it has a different drivetrain in it. At least I didn't do like the masses and plop in an LT1 or LS1.

If anyone lives in Orlando, and would like to come over to take a look at some wiring, I am at the point now of consolidating some wires I don't need. Eventhough I have a shop manual, it's still pretty tough to figure out what is needed and what's not.

When it's all said and done, I will have a Mazda RX-7 that runs mid 10's @~126mph, have A/C, PS Radio and get 22mpg. This will truely be a car that your mom could borrow.

It will also be a blast to see peoples reactions on or off the track. No one will take this car serious until it's raced or the hood is popped.

That is why I named the project MisRed as in misread.....

I live in daytona but I am in orlando a couple of times a week, Let me know and you can look at the wiring in my rex. Plus I would love to see your project.

Horn Hazzard inop.
 

Alarm system blinks lights (hazzard) and honks horn which is reason that they run thru the cpu. You will probably also find that your high beams don't work. Had similar problem when previous owner of my 90 vert. pulled one of the plugs near the cpu to avoid false alarms. Every thing worked after I replugged.

I figured out why the horns don't work... I don't have any!

The high beams work fine, but I am still hazzard-less. Not a big deal, I can figure that out later.
