EBAY turbos, anyone???
I have a 13b-re I'm about to bolt in...how are those $300.00 ebay turbos (xs Power) and how do you select one...I hae the twins on it now and want to take them off...I also want to know if I can use a stock S4 or S5 turbo on it will that give me more performance than the twins in seq mod controled by the haltech??? also will the stock S4 and S5 turbo manifods work on the 13b-re with the stock S4 or S5 down pipe.... I have a 91 vert

Don't do it, well, unless you like throwing $300 in the wind. The stock turbo/downpipe will bolt up fine. Get a used good turbo before a new china turbo.

I'd keep the twin un less you aim for big power in which case a 300$ turbo won't cut it. The saying always goes, you get what you pay for.
The ports on the RE are radically different so I don't think the stock TII manifold could just bolt-up. |

the intercooler, motor, lines, clutch, BOV, engine hoist, and misc, has used most of the budget only have about 1600 left and I need 800 for the tunning!!!! $800 left.. oh yeah and gas too

S4 or S5 exhaust manifold or turbo is just fine. The 13BRE exhaust ports line up the same. If you were referring to intake manifolds, that is a big step backward.
The stock twins on the 13bre are small. You can probably make the same power with a single 2nd gen turbo and save yourself the extra downpipe fabrication work. Again, if you are going to do the work for the swap, you might as well get a better turbo though. |
yeah i guess I'll try to go on ebay to find a stock turbo and downpipe...it was going to cost me 300 bucks for the downpipe...and no I wasnt talking about the intake...

i just threw a nice turbo setup for myself together on ebay for close to 500
i used a good but used turbo and i bought a mani and wastegate they are cheap ebay parts but they will work atleast the turbo isint cheapie and as far as 300 for a dp goes that way to much u could buy the flanges and have u one welded up for about 100 or so |
how do you know what turbo to get??? GT45, to4e I don't know the diffrence!!!!

any turbo exhaust manifold will bolt on the the RE,and yes you ca run a stock S4 or S5 turbo,mani and downpipe

If you had an REW I would say go non-sequential (versus ebay turbos), but the RE turbos are smaller and probably aren't worth keeping. Just put in an s5 turbo and manifold for now.
If you do have the money to gupgrade, best bet is to buy a turbo kit (new or used, look in the 3rd gen forum) designed for an FD and make some modifications from there. FD's have way more aftermarket turbo kits than FC's. |

around 300hp is good for me i think i'm just going to go with the s5 stockmanifold and turbo to replace the stock 13b-re turbos for now so I can clean up the engine by removing everything...I already rremove power steering pump and converted the rack...i figure it would be easy to remove all the excess if i replace the twins since I can't tell what the twins need to operate (vacuum lines etc.)...how much hp will it get with the stock s5 turbo setup??

I know the guy who got them hooked up with the Chinese supplier for them and started getting them produced. In fact he invested a lot of money in the Chinese supplier thinking it would be a good deal. Hey, who wouldn't want a $300 quality turbo? He promptly dropped any business with the Chinese supplier due to bad quality issues (turbo seizing). He is a big Garrett distributor here who has been in the turbo business over 30 years and was pretty embarrassed about the deal. Some people have a good luck with the turbos, but that is the problem. The QA of the manufacturer is horrible. Josh |
The stock S5 turbo will be able to make a maximum of about 275 HP.

i guess thats the way i need to go for now...I just need to find a used down pipe....or I may just go to nappa auto, or auto zone...

what would make the turbo fail??? other than maybe the bearings???? or the housing cracking isn't that rare??

Actually: Those ebay turbos. XS in particular make very good housings. It is the internals that fall apart and by fall apart I mean literally the turbo will eat a fin and send it through your intercooler.
What you can do is buy one of the XS power turbos or any of the other Chinese knock offs and send it to these guys: http://www.blaastperformance.com/ . What they will do is rebuild the internals with Garrett parts. So you will now have a damn good turbo for $400 or less. I cant find the actual link to the price for the Chinese rebuild price. But if you go into their t3 rebuilds they have it specified that they have different pricing for it. I thought it was like $175 or $200 for the rebuild. |

But then again, in the past year the shit China has produced has become even more shit. So gluing the housings doesn't surprise me at all. |
