EBay find: new to me, anyone heard of this

Looks like any other such product. I don't think they do much and I doubt that it's a real Mazdaspeed item. They don't seem to make that kind of thing or much stuff for street cars. They do racing stuff mostly. Most eBay stuff is fake anyway.

A+ for packaging. Probably box with two wires and a resistor.

cendo54 01-25-05 02:36 AM

some companies do claim a slight increase with these. this does not look like a genuine mazdaspeed item. maybe check on the hyperground site for a more detailed explanation of the box.

close, capacitor; a resistor would be a bad thing for a ground distro

locketine 01-25-05 02:46 AM

If it does what it says it does it's just a huge capacitor inside a fancey box, which I'm sure your car's electrical system already has thousands of. It's definetly not a mazdaspeed item.

Kenteth 01-25-05 03:07 AM

Doubtful on the hugeness, decent 1 Farad capacitors cost upwards of $100... probably just a few .05F capacitors (maybe $1 at radioshack) ran in parralell or some shit.

I've got a larger capacitor in my pants..

It's a capacitor.
They have been around for ages.
The stereo guys discovered them a few years back.
They work most effectively where you have switching or surging loads.
I have a small one on my stereo.
I'm considering putting one in the fuel injector power supply circuit.

Based on the description, it's a capacitor you connect in parallel with your battery. And a rather small capacitor at that. Spend the money on a new battery and a grounding kit...

T2monster 01-25-05 10:09 AM

^---what he said. Not a bad idea, necessarily, but keep in mind the larger the cap installed (for whatever reason) the larger the additional draw placed on the alternator.

Aaron Cake 01-25-05 10:13 AM

Only when that capacitor is being charged...Seriously, putting capacitors in parallel with the battery is a waste of time and money unless it's at the end of a long cable just before an amp.

Make sure your battery clamps are clean and tight, all your grounding points are clean and tight, and your battery is in good condition. That's all it takes.

T2monster 01-25-05 10:23 AM

believe it or not, Aaron. My part time job is roadshop install (stereo) at Circuit City. The larger caps usually put a constant loading on the alternator, one measureable with a DVOM. I can't explain it, other than to assume the cap setup is inefficient when it comes to power transfer.

I wasnt considering buying it , i could put my 50 bucks twords some 14 gauge wire and save the other $45 twords a real product.

bingoboy 01-25-05 03:57 PM

it's a really pretty mazdaspeed box, buy it, gut it, put your CDI box internals in it, and tell everyone you have a mazdaspeed ignition box :D
