Is it easy to remove the hatch?
 

I just looked at my hatch, and I have no idea what to use to take it out.
Help?

erm, a wrench and two people?
I don't know how it is on RX's since I'm not up close n personal w/ em a lot, but on my friends car he has two hinges held by 2 bolts each, looks like itd just unscrew, then detach the struts and electrical connections then lift off, but then again it was a camaro and we all know mazda loves overengineering...just for us :D

thanks, that seems scary though. the hatch has to be up to remove it, I'm scared it might fall down!

OK here we go, 1987 RX-7 workshop manual, section 14 (BODY), uhm
14-19 Removal of rear glass hatch

Removal of rear glass hatch
1. disconnect the negative battery cable
2. open the rear glass hatch
3. support the rear glass hatch w/ a rod
4 disconnect the rear wiper motor (its pointing to a little electgrical connector above the mechanism and below the hook for hatch to lock with)
5. remove the rear defroster wiring from glass hatch (right and left)
6. disconnect the damper stays (right and left)
7. close the rear glass hatch
8. remove the rear top garnish and the top ceiling. (see p14-8, which ill type up for you tonight if you need it at about 10pm cause i gotta go to work)
9. disconnect the rear washer hose
10. remove the rear glass hatch hinge nuts (4)
11. remove the rear glass hatch.

and if theres anything you need to know about sadjusting the hatch or struts or anything, just PM me and ill type it up for you tonight.
sorry i couldnt add more, and i dont have my camera or scanner hooked up ot this computer so no pictures.

oh,m and no time to edit, it looks like you disconnect the rear waser hose at the 90deg connector, and you unbolt the hatch from the body, not from hte hatch, you unbolt it while the hatch is down btw
get maybe 2 friends to help, 1 would be enough, but you never know
