Dynamic chamber/ intake manifold cleaning
 

i was wondering if anyone had any methods of cleaning the dynamic chamber on a 86 non turbo rx7? mine is caked with gunked! any ideas?

Not a real easy methode BUT, before I powdercoated mine i pulled the whole thing apart and had it hot tanked at my napa.

search there was a thread a while ago with almost the same title

Because the aluminum is porus, try getting it wet and then spray it down with oven cleaner ( let soak for a bit but keep it damp with a mist of water while it soaks ) carefully scrub with a soft wire brush and rinse. That's how I keep the cast aluminum valve covers on my big block chevy clean.

Or if you want, you can polish the manifold..

get a bottle of marine clean from por-15..it is a super degreaser...you can literally see it bubbling and turn black...did that to my manifols and throttle body...great stuff barly have to scrubb it all dissoles off by itself...check it out

Kerosine works well on the cheap. When I had my intake manifold off, I just put it in a tub on end and used a syphon pump to circulate it though the runners. Worded really well.

i cleaned my VDI up a while ago. mine wasn't too nasty to begin with but i just wetted a rag with break cleaner and messed about in the VDI chamber, and gave the plastic a quick rub down. then i dried everything thuroughly with a clean rag right after. i don't know it its necessary, but a used my finger to apply a little non-synthetic oil to the plastic cylinder before i re-inserted it to the VDI chamber to prevent jamming...i guess that could potentially enourage jamming if the intake manifold got hot enough, but i doubt that will happen. also i have my EGR deleted, but if i recall the EGR doesnt come into the intake manifold until after the VDI so that shouldn't matter either way.

after you brush,scrape the worst of the crap off you could use brake cleaner that usually completely evaporates away.

Tide works well also used that on aircraft parts in our hot water washer when I was in the air force. had a bucket and water when the washer didnt work well enough.
