dual pulley advantages with 100amps
 

Hi ,

I been doing research about the Dual pulley product. And seems great. I'm a new rx owner. '89 GTU.

Can anyone list the advantages of this mod with the 100amp FD alt.

The dual sheave or the 100a alt?

The dual sheave doubles the amount of belt driving the water pump when you remove the air pump which you shouldn't do on a S5 NA.

The 100a alt puts out more amps to run more electronics.

yes, a dual belt is only there to ensure that the water pump is receiving sufficient belt area so that it doesnt slip at high rpms....

removing the air pump is just a bad idea on an s5 n/a. you want it to control your VDI and aux ports. Otherwise it's like having a GS-R Integra with no working VTEC (which is just like the Rx-7 aux ports) and no working two-stage intake manifold (which is just like the Rx-7 VDI system)

okay. so basically its just a reinforcement on the water pump to be functional at high rpm.

Wouldn't it had a bit more torque ?

how would adding a belt add torque might i ask??

it's also good insurance if you have removed you air pump and emission. If your single alt belt snaps and you happen to not be able to get off the road till you might happen to blow the top of your OEM radiator. Not that I would know first hand about that or anything :blush:

i dont know i think all previous post state the flaw behind remove the air pump on the na. the only increase i know of would be tension and reliabilty

Yes because uses the crank sheave that drives the air pump. A double sheave alternator pulley cannot work on an air pump equipped car. The double sheave just makes up for the lost belt area once the air pump is removed.

Yes, if you want to run dual alternator belts. The second belt uses the air pumps slot on the crank and water pump pulleys.

Basically you need not worry about this issue since you SHOULD keep the airpump to keep the vdi and 6pi functional. The car is SLOW without those!

what happens if i get an electric fan it will lessen the tension on the motor.

Both slots on the double pulley don't have to be used. If only the rear one is used, the air pump can still have a belt. It will just look funny with a half used pulley. But almost all the FD vbelt pulleys are dual sheave, so about the only way to get a single pulley is to drill out an FC pulley to fit the FD alt's shaft.

:scratch: Fans put tension the the engine? Do you mean the clutch fan taking some power from the engine? It's minimal due to the fact that the clutch fan does a lot of freewheeling. E-fans are typically for looks or space saving.

not to mention any stress lost will be regained through the charge on the alt
