Loosen/lower the alternator?

i have a dual groove pulley on my 10AE and i had no trouble re installing new belts. as mentioned above, try loosening the 12mm bolt at the metal adjusting sleeve as well as the through bolt on the alternator and see if yu can change the alternator's position to a lower position closer to the engine so that you can slip th ebelts on.

ya i tried loosening it already. only way i could get the belts on was to remove the water pump pulley then slip them on. even then things seemed a bit tight. my alternatro was sitting down as far as it could go. what length belt are you running?

the belts should be 9.5 x 820

I have to turn the engine by hand while putting on the belts to help force them on. I have a FD alt and dual belt pulley though.
