DTSS, Suspension, what works best??
 

I recently purchased a 1990 GTU and I was wondering what sort of suspension mods work best with it? I'm new to RX7's (my previous ride was a 79 Datsun 280ZX-R) but I prefer stiff, predictable handling without much bodyroll.
I've shopped around online, and I've found three tuners that make parts specifically for RX7's. Namely, Mazdatrix, Racing Beat and CR Racing.
I've already purchased some adjustable Ground Control coil-over springs, which lowered it about an inch-and-a-half I'd guess, and those solved my first complaint about the handling... its tendency to "float" during high speed transitions. Very unnerving for me since I was used to driving a car with a few hundred pounds of downforce pushing down on it.
But even so I think the FC is a better handling car then the Z in slow and moderate corners. I felt something funny about the suspension under high-g loads and it wasn't until recently that I figured out what it was. The DTSS system... imagine my surprise :eek: to learn that the rear wheels actually adjusted their toe-angle automatically! :cool:
So I guess my first question is how many of you like the DTSS system? And how many of you elliminate it and use camber-rods to help the rear end stick? Second, which aftermarket strut-braces and sway bars work best?

I would make this assumpsion. People who do not race their car like/live with dtss.

Those who race their car do not like it. I do not like mine. It is unpredictable.

There is a bushing made from Delrine that replaces the stock bushing that allows the DTSS to function.

I replaced the DTSS bushings and REALLY liked the added predictability of the car. Very nice. It makes fine adjustments at the limit easier.

Might as well replace all the rear busings (actuall all of them) w/ poly when you pull the rear arms- the others are sooo cheap and easy compared to DTSS bushing.

I later installed a rear strut tower bar (JIC dry carbon) and MAN I was surprised that it made a big difference. It totally eliminated this NASTY wheelhop I had and made the car rotate w/ throttle lift.

I did not notice any difference w/ the front bar (JIC carbon over alum), but a more rigid bar or a bar that was fully triangulated to the firewall might make a more marked difference.

If your car is not so equiped I also found an LSD also really makes the FC much more predictable handling in the low speed/ limited traction turns.

I made my own replacement bushings.
Probably the most noticable difference in handling(atleast on my car)
DTSS replaced and urethane bushings all around, really made my suspension like new
