downpipe ?'s

i just got my downpipe in the mail today from rx7.com, that was helza fast shipping. anyways, i am wondering if it will reach all the way to my midpipe or not, its really short, and i haven't been underneath my car for a while so i don't really know. also, what is the little not welded on the top for, right behind the turbo flange.

it should hit the mid pipe, what brand is it?

gxlspeeder 04-28-04 11:04 PM

i think rx7.com made it, not completely sure though

why don't you provide us with a link to rx7.com and show us which DP you got.

Okay dude, the downpipe will only hit certain midpipes (I only know they hit the Bonez ones for sure, others I cannot speak for depending on their manufacture). I had a custom fabbed midpipe (interchangable cat and straight pipe with buick ball joint at the catback) made up. That "knot" is actually a bung for the O2 sensor to go in, but if you run anything other than the stock 1 wire O2 sensor you will want to relocate your O2 all the way back as far as you can (but just before the cat, of course). The rotaries get HOT up there near the turbo.

If I were to do it all over I'd probably get the Racing Beat stainless steel 3" "turbo-back" setup but oh well. This straight pipe is gonna be loud as ****, even with mufflers, and the cat I can't run until the engine has been broken in and I've burnt all the assembly lube out of it. :)

if it's a bonez 2.5" it'll bolt up to the stock midpipe before the cat...

ok my car is on the lift at my tech school, the midpipe i had fabbed was just to replace the main cat, so i am just going to use the stock piping for now, my exhaust is going to be so ghetto with sizes, from the turbo back it will be 2.5, 2, 2.5. also does anyone know any little tricks or secrets for the replacement, working around those ac lines is a bitch

Use a universal joint on your impact gun or torque wrench (torque wrench preferred by me, others swear by their impact guns). I only like to use impact guns on the two-bolt straight flanges.

But I don't know anything. :)

gxlspeeder 04-29-04 08:37 PM

the two bolt flange has already been unbolted, i used the traditional way, 17mm deep wall socket, 3/8" drive ratchet, and a jack bar a.k.a cheater bar
