dose your FC smoke when you start it up

ok when i start my FC a good amount white exhaust smoke comes out.

dose this happen to anyone else how can you fix it too.

it only happens for 1 sec or 2.

Z3r0 06-08-03 12:34 PM

when I start mine its blue smoke for a few secs

Fingers 06-08-03 12:35 PM

very little blue smoke, and a white puff or two while it's warming up (i guess that's the subzero thing kicking in)

Terrh 06-08-03 12:41 PM

I get a tiny bit of white smoke (I think it's just steam) for maybe 30 seconds at startup, (from like 10 seconds after its started to maybe 40 seconds after its started) and nothing else after..

Dan H 06-08-03 12:43 PM

White smoke upon start up for me. After a few minutes of warming up, it all goes away.

If its a constant white smoke, might want to check the coolant.

Mx6-Rx7 Addict 06-08-03 04:12 PM

Mine does too, from what i understand, don't these engines actually inject a certain amount of oil on every start attempt for lubrication???

Even on frigid mornings (15*F or so) I've never seen a single puff of smoke. Hopefully it'll be a LONG time before I do.

blind 06-08-03 04:22 PM

well for thoes of you who dont have smoke

most likely us guys with smoke have 100K on the engine.

Psychoblue23 06-08-03 04:24 PM

172K all factory and still kicking!

I got 109k miles and no smoke. MX-6-RX-7, the rotary injects oil the entire time its running.

Constant smoke (any color) is bad.

Blue smoke= oil =oil control ring (injectors don't put in enough oil to smoke)
White=coolant =coolant seal
black=fuel (running rich)= tune up

yearrgh 06-08-03 10:36 PM

Hate to be the one to tell you the bad news, but you're probably losing a coolant seal.

poor college student 06-08-03 10:44 PM

no smoke at all

mac_dad6 06-08-03 10:47 PM

mines got 168k on the odo and it smokes a bit on start up but goes away fast.

ViperKillerWannabe 06-08-03 10:50 PM

Just during warmup I get little black puffs that dissipate almost as quickly as they form. When it's warmed up it's smooth sailing.

Terrh 06-08-03 10:51 PM

a little white smoke on startup is not a sign of problems - it's a sign of normalness. It's steam.

If you watch closely, one side will probably stop smoking a little bit before the other. The passanger side one on my car always seems to smoke for an extra 10 seconds or so... I dunno why. but I wouldn't be worried about your engine, unless you've noticed other problems.

yearrgh 06-08-03 10:55 PM

Only on cold startup. If it also does it when hot then he's got a problem.

ViperKillerWannabe 06-08-03 10:57 PM

When you park it on a humid night with hot pipes water will condense on them. Then when you start it up in the morning all that water gets heated up and it turns to steam. That's not a coolant leak, it's just normal.

theonlygreat 06-08-03 11:06 PM

steam= dissappears about 6 feet from the car like every car on a cold morning
smoke= creates atmosphere destroying clouds which leave a trail behind you

jacobcartmill 06-08-03 11:35 PM

i think he's talking about the little bit of blue oil smoke that comes out when you start it after sitting for a night and starting it while the engine is cool. you only have a problem if its ALOT of smoke, or if it does it when you start it and the engine is totally warmed up.

both my rx7s have done it, i think its just a bit of oil that is left in the housings when you shut the car off and you start the car and it blows out.

i think you're ok man.

Mine smokes occasionally on startup, but I think its more due to a combination of flooding and me running premix more than anything :)
