Door lock jammed

Hey guys, I got a typical 2nd gen that has its door lock coming apart. The part that broke is that little plate that you hit when you put the key in. I had that happened on the driver side, but luckily I took the pieces out by plier. Now it is the passenger side. I try to use the plier to take out the little pieces, but I accidently jammed it in as deep as I can. Is there anyway I can get that stuck piece out? I tried spray high pressure water on it, I still couldnt get it to move. Any advice?

My driver side lock has the same prob.....I haven't been able to pull that slider out either. I have to spray lithium grease in there every now and then to keep the mechanism from freezing up. Other than replacing the whole assembly......I have no clue how to get that damn thing out.

Hehehe, great idea except that the piece is made out of plastic. ;)

I disassembled my lock to remove this annoying piece. (Yes, I was bored that day). Just watch out for the little spring-loaded ball bearing when you remove the metal cylinder bezel, and be sure to remove everything in an organized fashion so that you can get it back together again.

This web site is pretty lame, but it does have pics of the door lock mechanism from the driver's side door of an 88 TII:

oh it's metal on my 90 GTU, must be something subtle they changed for the 89-91, or someone had already changed door locks before. anyway i have a piece of KEY jammed in there, couldn't get that out w/the magnet-paperclip trick, gotta take it apart. :-(

That's interesting. I guess the metal piece doesn't work much better. :)

How in the heck did you manage to get the key to break off in the lock?
