dont laugh but dummy me droped nut in egr hole

well i guess i did it this time was de smoging my 88gtu had the egr valve off and puting the block off plate on and some how i droped the nut down the big egr hole . my question is will it be allright to leave it in ?or do i need to try to get out
and if so any suggestions on how to remove it thanks . :(

Turn the engine upside down, and shake it till the nut falls out.:D But seriously, have you tried one of those magnet wands to try to fish it out?

Wizz 03-20-05 10:28 PM

Maybe a shop vac could suck it out?

Don't know, never tried.

i don't know how much this will help you but thats how far you have to go fishing  http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33...t/S2010011.jpg

This is what you do. Get a magnetic wand, But get the flexy type and cut the handle off. Get some fuel hose or other thin hose that just fits the flex pipe and epoxy it on to the wand. "Fish" for it and listen for the magnet to pick up the nut and carefully pull it back out. I had to do same thing when I dropped a washer down an open intake.

hope you get it out

Apathy 03-21-05 07:02 AM

I did the same thing when I dropped a nut in the egr hole.

Whizbang 03-21-05 07:04 AM

thanks for all the suggestions il try the shop vac first and then go fishing will let you know how it turns out

TwistedRotors 03-21-05 08:04 AM

Don't feel bad, I dropped a nut into my turbo one time......used a flexible magnetic wand to get it out.

dont expect the shop vac to work, try the mag idea, i cant remember if it would stick to the side housings though since there cast. that would make it alot harder.,

Aaron Cake 03-21-05 10:13 AM

I would try the shop vac. You should be able to get enough air current through the EGR passages to suck up the nut. If not, then you will have to remove the engine and turn it upside down.

Leaving the nut should not be a big problem, especially if the EGR is blocked off.

Like it was said above, the small holes lead to the intake tract, the large hole only goes to the approx half inch hole at the exaust manifold. It would not hurt anything as long as the blockoff plate is installed.

well thanks guys tried shop vac and did not work ,will try fishing with a magnent tomarow
if that does not work .... well do yall thank it would be ok. it cant get to the roter can it ?

I don't THINK it will get to the rotor as long as you put a blockoff plate over the EGR mounting area. It can't get to the rotors from the large hole. Only the two small holes will allow a passage to the rotors.
