does this sounds like a bad turbo?
sometimes when i floor it, boost builds, but my car has no power. it will increase the rpm's very slowly. right now i'm boosting at 7.5 psi, with an 87 t2, 3" DP/MP, TID mod with cone filter. also, when it does this my car sounds different. sort of hollow. this has been going on for a while on and off, does this sounds like it could be my turbo taking a crap?
that may not be your turbo bro. i have a blown turbine on my turbo and it still pushes me back in my seat when i get on the boost (boosting at 8 psi) how old is your turbo?
I don't think so.. check for restrictions in the intake and exhaust, maybe buildup in your intercooler (unseen), I don't know. I'm trying to diagnose a problem why my '90 TurboII won't boost beyond 5.5 psi with a full exhaust. Not even creep.
Or your engine could be on its way out. But if that were the case, you might not be boosting at the levels you're boosting at right now. |
Does this happen gradually, or is it full power one minute, hardly any the next? If it’s the latter, check your leading coil and its power and signal connection (little white plug). It the coil is losing its signal intermittently, you lose both leading plugs together, so the engine will feel very smooth, but have very little power and take ages to rev up, and you'll hear the turbo spinning up but not feel its effects.
ok how do i go about checking the signal connection? like step by step? i've never done it before
It might just be a wiring problem. There's a little white 2-pin plug on the back of the coil that provides constant 12V (black with a yellow stripe) and ECU signal (green with a yellow stripe). Check the wires are not broken or damaged, check the terminals in the plugs are OK and make sure the plug is securely connected.

i checked it, and its clean and connected securely.
