Does my TII have Posi-rear end
I have just bought a 87 TII and I have been in the snow here a little and it seems as if only one wheel spins and the other one doesnt do shit! I have done a search and found nothing. If that is the case is there something that can be done to elimiante this. Thanks>>....

If it is a factory TII (not a TII swap). Then since it is an 87 (S4) it should have a clutch type LSD. But depending on the milage it is most likely warn out. They usually stop working at around 130,000-150,000 miles. So most likely it is warn out.

well first off SEARCH, all turbo models came with LSD or limited slip Diffys...Not posi cause there is a difference.

there's not a difference between 'posi' and LSD, "positraction" is GM's name for a limited-slip differential.
|
Wow, noob tells noob to search.
If I answered his question, there is no need for you to tell him to search. |
haha

So what can I do!
Is there anything I can do abou this or am I stuck with it???
|
replace it.
|
Replace or rebuild it. The S4 versions are rebuildable.
|
One of the only places I have found to buy new disk for the clutch pack is:
www.mazdatrix.com Or at least they are the most convienent, there are probably many other places. |
They hold up to more abuse than an s5-s6 viscous LSD. Its worth rebuilding if its worn out.

S6??? You mean the FD diffs?
Those aren't viscous, they are TORSEN. And there even weeker than the visous LSD's. |

At high torque they are more locked. To me - that's the best of both worlds. Of course, in Florida, we don't have to deal with ice.. |
No, I mean they break very easily. Much much easier than the S4 TII diffs.
Vosko has broken numberous stock TORSEN diffs. But a nice strong TORSEN is better for autoX and road raceing. Not an FD on though. |
Someone posted this last fall.
With the tranny in neutral, both tires tend to turn the same direction. Link to 4MB movie- LSD test |
soooo...
What are you trying to say/prove? That the guy there had an open diff? Or what? If he was trying to see if it was an LSD, he should have leaft it in gear, not in neutral. |
