Does this mean my 5th/6th ports work?

on my 86 gxl with 104000 miles i think the 5th and 6th ports still open up.. When i rev it slowly moving up until 3800 my exhaust sounds pretty much the same, and then it sounds like the rpms jump... this is in neutral. Does this mean my 5th/6th ports are still functioning?

or you are having a slight hesitation. You can also watch the actuators to see if they are working.

I don't believe they open in neutral.. try the grease test..

it's a myth that they only open under load....pop the hood and rev it up...see if the linkage rods retract(S4) or extent(S5)...

Grease test is the way to go, you need load

On my rx-7 with stock exhaust and with aftermarket I needed load. Tried revving under the hood in neutral and they never moved. Did the grease test and the seemed to be working fine.

On an 86, you need load. You can do it without load if you have something like the air pump hooked up to open them... but stock you do need load.
