Does Mazda or any aftermarket offer ring gears for flywheels?
Obviously, this is about my RX-7. I broke a tooth off it trying to remove that damn 54 mm nut on the eccentric shaft.
I blew my motor (5-sp) and am swapping a new motor into it (auto). I need my old flywheel and clutch, but the nut prevented me from getting it off. Now, the nut is off and my flywheel is a tooth lighter in weight. I am all about a lightened flywheel, but don't think this is the route to take. My question: Does any aftermarket companies offer replaceable ring gears or does Mazda at least offer them? Or, do I have to find an entire flywheel? |
Probally go for a new flywheel. Go with a light weight flywheel?

mazda sells them seperatly.

I called my local Mazda dealership and they told me IF they could get a flywheel, that would be my only option. They told me it was only sold as a single assembly, ring gear and flywheel together.
Hmmm...... |
Why don't you just place a wanted add on the parts trader?
I'm sure you could get a good used one dirt cheap. Mike |
I already have a used flywheel coming, but I am curious why my local dealer told me that you have to buy a whole flywheel.
You would think when I laughed in his face at the $350 price that he might have wanted to offer me the ring gear instead, to at least make a sale of some sort instead of me walking away. |
Unless the part has been discountiuned....here are the parts numbers off of my diagrams.
For a 91 Turbo - N318-11-502A NA - 0866-11-702 Just call the dealer with part numbers and see what they say. Also, don't forget to get the flywheel resurfaced! visit www.mazdaformance.com for your parts diagrams. |
