does engine or turbo last longer?

i bought my FC 2nd hand and i've had to replace my turbo once so far but haven't had to rebuild the engine yet. I'm just wondering, how many turbos would you typically go through per engine rebuild assuming everything is stock?

Purchased '89 TII new, engine broke a seal at 155,000 miles and now at 215,000 still original turbo.

i would say the average T2 had an engine before the turbo. chances are that a given T2 is on its second or third engine at this point

i'm just wondering now actually. I might not have stock boost. Is it possible that my aftermarket ECU is increasing the boost above stock levels?

Install a boost gauge and you'll know. With my "aftermarket" ecu I get 12 psi max.

my boost gauge says 16 psi

Guess you could say it's higher than stock! With that boost, hopefully all systems are designed to sustain that boost or you'll be replacing the engine sooner than the turbo.

My car is running at 160000 km with the original engine. Turbo failed at 140000....

Im at least the 6th owner of my Tii, so its total backstory is unknown. My motor was resealed by a previous owner around 160-170k, though it hadn't yet chucked a seal. The turbo im not entirely sure of, the car has 210,000 on it right now and the turbo does smoke on startup and after 100+ mi trips it will sometimes be a smoke screen when i come to a stop(not during driving oddly). If it has around that many miles it would make sense that the seals are near EOL.
