does anyone still use the rear rubber mat?
I just put in my rear strut tower bar yesterday and noticed that that rear rubber mat that is under the carpet is pretty damn heavy (seems like 10lbs or so) Anyways I took it out for the time beeing and of course I'm not going to notice any differances from taking it out but the only one I have noticed was it got quite a bit louder in the car now. I was wondering who has actually taken this out to reduce weight and who has it still in the back of the car for the obvious reason of being able to hear the person next to you :)

i took it out, i guess it was a bit louder but that just comes with the territory. it kinda smelled bad so it was gone for a good reason.
Screw that thing, I took it out and removed the sound deadening tar while I was at it :p:
Mine is like new.
I took mine off when I installed my nitrous kit and left it out. It made it a lot eaiser to mount my bottle.
so everyone has taken it out huh? Mine is like new as well and I don't know, I think I'm going to put it back in because the sound was actually not that bad with it but without it it is a bunch louder now!
I removed mine for about a day and then put it back in. It made my car noisier inside, and I already chipped off all the sound insulating tar from the floorpan under the carpet. But I still take the mat out when drag racing or autocrossing though, along with the tool box, jack and spare, and other junk.

Sound deadening people...
I just went ahead and put it back in. I couldn't stand how loud it is. Straight through exhaust has a way of killing the conversation :)

Oh well, screw conversation. |
I spilled a half a gallon of coolant so I had to take it out to rinse/dry that bitch. It was loud...was happy to get it back it.
The only downside is that the mat still tastes sweet :( |
Why are you eating your mat? :p
hmm, i might have to put mine back in, ive almost got my "straight through" exhaust to the point to where i cant hear it in the car
You guys are all such wusses :p:
I don't think anyone could stand my car except me almost. |
Woudlnt it be lighter to take it out and put in some strauss sound dampening material. I dont mind loud, im running straight 2.5" with fake apexi n1's. its all kinds of loud :)
No it'd be much lighter to take out the mat, and the stock sound deadening tar, and not replace it with anything ;)
But much much louder, especially with what I'm running. Must be why my gf bitches so much, oh well, not like I can hear her bitching it's too loud :p: |

lol @ Ddub, your more manly than I :) I like bringing it places and having my fiance in the car with me and not hearing her bitch, even if I can only see her mouthing it ;) I had no idea how much of a differance that mat made my goodness.

Because it is oh so sweeeettttt  |
Gone......then again everything in the rear is gone.
it was gone in the tII... so im stealing the one from the parts gxl and putting it back in. Between the missing shifter boot and no sound deadening rear mat, my car is loud and stinky. I don't mind the loud part, but i gotta hear my metallica when i'm driving :)
Mine comes out for autocross. Otherwise there's just too much road noise that comes thru in daily driving. If the car was a dedicated autocrosser, it would be out permanently, but the car would be trailered to events.
mine is gone along with everything else that came in the back
everythings gone on my car. even the worthless back seats
