does anybody know where i can get a upgraded throttle body?

well i heard you can take out the butterflys in the throttle body to give it more intake. if i can do the throttle body myself then i will. if anybody has any ideas on how to do this or where i can find information to do this that would be great. if i cant do it myself im looking to spend no more then 500 bucks. anybody have any ideas?

The sell pre-ported/polished tb's on the net for like 400 bucks. But I wouldn't say its worth the money. I'd give it a go on a spare TB. Which is what I am doing.

Check this link for do it yourself or do a search for BDC (Brian Cain), a friend of mine said, he does an excellent job at resonable prices.

BDC charges 150 to do it with.you would need to send your tb to him. check him out at teamfc3s.org.heres his write-up on it: http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...&goto=newpost. he does excellent porting jobs too if you want that done also :D

You would seriously spend $500 on a TB?! Holy crap...

For all the info you need on throttle body modification, check out these two links.

You posted while I was searching for the links (and recovering from the whole $500 thing). ;)

I hope he doesn't mindme posting this...

PM Hondahater on TeamFC3S. He ported mine for less than BDC would've charged, and the end results are very comparable. I'll get some pics up as soon as I can find my digicam

i heard now that the car runs a little funny at low rpms with the ported throttle body. so i dont know if i want to do it anymore. i think ill just get my intake manifold ported instead. where can i get that sent off too. to get ported

NZConvertible 02-03-04 06:47 PM

It doesn't run funny, it's just less tolerant of rapid throttle opening at lower revs (causes a hiccup). It's no big deal, you quickly get used to it, and the benefits outweigh this minor downside. :)

Slammedblk7 02-03-04 08:59 PM

Talk to BDC, he's been doin this stuff for a while now..and very good at it..with a good rep about it.
trust me once you get it on..you'll love it.
ERic.

It's really not that hard to do it yourself. Personally I wouldn't pay anyone to do it.

andrew lohaus 02-04-04 12:03 AM

but after you buy the tools, you could have payed someone.

silverrotor 02-04-04 12:08 AM

Is It to late to say zero to $500? I could do alot more with that kind of money.

If you have a study (surgical) hand, good tools, and possibly another TB on hand (just In case you royally screw up the first one), I really don't see why anyone can't do It.

Why not just do the throttle body mod removing the secondary throttle plates and forget the porting? That would be a much more effective use of cash. The biggest advantage with the TB mod is you get an increase in throttle response. You're not going to get a usefull HP increase. It's free and easy. Make sure you adjust the TPS, etc. to reduce the hickups. I had a real problems with my idle for a while afterwards too.

For some people there are other options besides buying, like hiring or borrowing.

Because that's where the extra power comes from.

But you will have the tools for other jobs later in life. You won't be a victim that has to go to others to fix your problems. Think long term.

YearsOfDecay 02-04-04 01:34 PM

Porting the Throttle body is easy, we do it for an extra 25 bucks when we pulish UIM's.... Funny, I haven't done it yet to my OWN car!!!!! To busy makin FCD's and polishing other peoples stuff.

BUT, here's the deal... you have to make sure that once you grind away the excess material, you get it smoothed out, sanded and polished up or your defeating the purpose.

Also, if ALL you are going to do is port the T-Body and the rest of the car is stock..... your wasting your time, its not going to make a noticable difference, BUT, once you start doing things like a TID, Highflow Intercooler, Turbo mods, etc...then you will notice the difference.

It doesn't have to be polished, just reasonably smooth to the touch. Polishing is a waste of time.
