Does the the 3000 RPM start up, hurt your engine?
 

When I start my engine, it rev's up to 3000 rpm, if you look at your oil pressure gauge it doesn't even move for at least 20 sec, is the the engine even getting oil? What do I need to do, to stop it from reving so high?

No, it's supposed to assist in the warmup process so you DON'T harm your engine. It gets the engine lubricated faster, and warmed up faster. I don't think they would have incorporated the thermal-wax and the fast-idle at startup if it harmed the engine.

Actually, the accelerated warm up system is designed to warm up the cat converter inorder to reduce startup emission.

The high speed at startup doesn't do the engine much good bc that's when most of the engine wear occurs (little or no oil, metal grinding until oil is pumped into engine). To defeat this feature, you can tap on the gas right after the engine starts, or start the engine while you are in gear. Do let the engine run for 45-60 sec until it warms up before you take it to the road. Also, don't rev the engine too high until you've reached the normal operating temperature.

I thought that the start up was for people in snow or cold winter. People in sandiego or texas whatever dont need this feature at all. I heard if you disable it that it will improve your idle a little bit. Also . Do I have to worry about letting it warm up in my NA. It dosent make as much heat. I usually Take 30 secs for it to warm up. Is this enough. I also let it warm down for 30 secs.

good rule of thumb is...

do not rev the engine over 3k untill the temp gauge is at least 1/4th of the way up.

the warmup procedure does not hurt then engine i do not think. but i do know that it is supposed to get that cat nice and warm and to help the horribly rotary emmisions. think about when a lot of us start out engine.(not mine tho!)... we get that great white puff of smoke. thats oil, so obviously it is getting its lubrication off the bat.

If you have a NA, there is no reason to cool down, unless you were at a track. On the street, it just wastes gas. It's good that you warm up. Some people just drive right on to the freeway right when they start the car. If they get some local traffic and take it easy, 30-60 sec of warming is okay.

i wait until the pin goes over the temp line.. that for me is usually 3 or 4 minutes. but i always thought it was good for your car to warm it up especially a manual. but thats me!
