Do you need thread tape with Earls fittings?
Installing Aeromotive A1000 w/ss lines just wondering if you need thread tape or any type of sealer? ...heres a pic

cant see the image bu teflon tape is recommended.

I am pretty sure that the A1000 uses an O ring sealed AN fitting that is not pipe thread nor requires any sealant. In fact sealant make cause a leak because the AN fittings don't seal by threads but by pushing the two pieces together in a seat. The pic doesn't show up for me either.

maybe i should have waited for the image to show before commenting lol.

on my aeromotive FPR the NPT port for the fuel pressure gauge liked to leak. I put some blue threadlocker on it and that solved the problem (teflon tape didn't work for some reason). The actually hose fittings don't need any kind of sealant, but you need to make sure you install the hose ends properly or they will leak.

when installing the hose ends, should you use some type of lube? & what do you use to cut SS lines?

The only time you use thread sealant is on *NPT* type fittings.
You are not supposed to use it anything else, especially on *AN* type fittings. AN type fittings do not seal at the threads. AN type fittings seal at the bevel. Thread sealant, especially Teflon tape, can interfere with this bevel mating surface. It could be an o-ring seal, as Marek has mentioned. Look for the bevel on the edge - this will tell you if you need an o-ring or not. -Ted |
