Do you change your plugs from the top or bottom?

ive been looking a lot at my motor lately and there seems to be a lot of crap blocking the way of getting to the sparkplugs from the top. is there an easier way to get to them? seems to me like the only other way is by jacking the car up and getting to them from under the car. any ideas?

i got to my spark plugs from the top easily. just takes a little bending of the rists

Top also. I use a "stubby" rachet. When I watched dealership do it on an '88, they did the plugs from the bottom with an air rachet.

I've pulled out alot of the bs and can get them nicely from the top.

if ya dont have AC or PS it's easy as hell from the top!

i use a deep socket 21mm 1/2 drive connected to a 3/8 drive converter and a flex head socket wrench.

how much are you supposed to tighten the spark plugs? till they wont go nemore..thats what i do.....

yeah, my car has no P/S at all, plus i havent put my A/C back in since the engine swap so my plugs are simple to do from the top. it was tricky on my old T2 that had all that stuff but it could still be done from the top.

Throw away the power steering, and it becomes 10 times easier! :)

it's not hard regardless...maybe on a TII but it's simple on an NA (I don't know whats around there on a TII). Ratchet, deep socket, short extension :)

Yeah from the top indeed, bit of a pain but I can do it in like 15 minutes, not too bad, just a bit of a contortionist act.

voodooracing 10-25-02 04:44 PM

super easy on the top... stubby or regular rachet...

hmmm... sounds like my weekend project is going to be "rip out the power steering". ive been debating whether or not to leave it in since its been leaking. i guess this just settles the debate. thanks guys!!!

BlackFC_NYC 10-25-02 07:09 PM

top, but then again i dont have my pwr steering and ac =)

osdesigns 10-26-02 03:57 AM

even with PS and AC it is still not hard to change from the top
