Rebuild kit $900-$1100, Housings $400 each x 2. Parts total probably $2000-$2500 depending on anything else you find. If you do it yourself thats it. If you send it to be rebuilt elsewhere, then yes. Rotary Ressurection can rebuild for less than that though. Visit his website and check it out HERE

How many miles are on your car? Rebuilds can cost alot or a little depending on what you replace. A base rebuild will probably cost around $900 but thats assuming you dont need to replace like the housings or something.

Two words:
Preventitive Maintenance They ring true in everything from oil changes, air filters and inspection to rebuilding prematurely. Say you get your engine compression tested and you net...75-85psi. Sure, the engine will probably run for a while and make decent power, but when it blows up you'll be in for new housings possibly new rotors possibly resurfacing irons possibly nicking the turbine on the turbo with chunks of apex seal etc. But if you take it apart before it blows and freshen everything, you'll more then likely find most if not all major components within spec and when its put back together with fresh seals, you'll have a *basically* brand new engine for between 1000 and 2000 dollars depending on if you do the work or someone else. |

As for your case, look around the forum; I'm sure you can find a cheaper way out of this. |
To replace all the Mazda OEM seals, you're looking a little over a grand.
To replace all the Mazda OEM gaskets (i.e. gasket kit), you're looking close to a grand. Right there is a couple grand just in parts! Now, we haven't even touched on labor. Average price for labor for a "decent" rebuild is another grand. Add another grand for removal and reinstallation of the engine plus anything miscellaneous, and yes, we're looking at around four thousand. We haven't even touched on most of the wear&tear items yet... Clutch, brakes, brake hydraulics, clutch hydraulics, water pump, radiator, hoses, belts, fluids, etc. Can you say money pit? -Ted |
Wait, last time I checked the rebuild kit came with all or the gaskets you need.
Basically, if you get someone else to do it for you you are looking at 3-4k for a good rebuild if they do everything. If you pull the motor you can get it done for 1-2k at www.rotaryresurrection.com depending on whether your housings are usable. If you do it yourself you can do it a little cheaper than that. You then have to figure in other random stuff like hoses, etc. Best case scenario you are looking at about 1000-1500 if done yourself. Real-world scenario is more like 2000-2500. |
buy a used engine... you can find a 13bt for $1500 with trans.
