Do I need a gasket for the fuel level sending unit/pump?

So I finally yanked the flsu/pump out of my crashed 86 and I'm getting ready to put it into my '86 former parts car. :) The thing is, there's a gasket on the underside of the top of the unit. I went to Canadian Tire and they didn't list such a gasket. A quick peek at Mazdatrix didn't show one, either (if it's included with the unit, it didn't say so...)
I'm going to try a Mazda dealer Wednesday, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone out there has had some experience with these units and would care to comment either on the gasket or installing the unit. I do plan to clean the hell out of it before I put it in. :)
Also, I seem to be using silicone sealant on nearly all other gaskets - should I use some with this one?

Thanx much!

its not a gasket, its a rubber seal. i wouldn't install it without one. i like to make sure fuel stuff (especially in/around the tank) is done right.

And it's much appreciated. But I don't think he's around much anymore to answer your question.

I wasn't harassing

But yes, it's rubber. Not sure where you would find a new one.. But fuel vapor leaving the tank like that wouldn't be the best situation to find yourself in.

what happened to yours? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say they come with the new sending unit.

Top up your tank,GUN the car and watch a gallon of gas spew out over the Tank.
YES, you could say that gasket is needed.
I had to cut my screws off the tank to get the sender out to change pumps.I self tapped the Sender back on the tank, and I got leakage at that spot.
I forgot about it until Gas was "on Sale"..stupid me,I get to watch all my Gas drip off the tank after I Kick the Car down..
I am not smoking as much now though(cigarettes!)..I gotta wait until weather is better to drop the tank and correct the problem.
So Ya,that gasket is a Must.
