Do I need brake "hardware"?
I'm going from single piston calipers to 4pots and a few places like Mazdatrix and Atkins sell "brake hadware kits". Do I need this when installing my new(used) calipers, pads and rotors? The seller doesn't have it and says I don't need it, but I really need to make sure.
86-92 Rx7 Front Brake Pad Hardware Kit... |
I used a kit like this when rebuilding my 4-piston set, but as long as the set of brakes that youre swapping in came with the shims and various pieces you shouldn't "need" the kit. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get it though.

The seller doesn't have these parts.

You can get a brake hardware kit from your local generic auto parts store.
|
without those shims you will get a annoying "click" sound until you get to highway speeds
|
you will need the pins too..
|
Does anyone have a picture of all these shims and pins and other hardware?

a warning if you didint know. found out the hard way. you will probably want to get the right break booster for the four piston brakes. im still using the booster from the single piston calipers and i just recently put the four piston calipers on. you will have alot of pedal travel before your breaks start to work.

I'll be fine until I can afford a brake booster as well. Having brakes at all is important right now, aha. Here's a pic, even though you could have clicked the link I posted, NYsNumba1Man: http://atkinsrotary.com/store/images...-49-290-01.jpg My local parts store can get an "aftermarket" hardware kit, basically not OEM for $15 overnight so I'm not concerned about it now. |
/\/\..and that kit does not have the Pins needed to hold the pads to the caliper.
see those round holes?.the pins go through those. and those funny wire things?.They hold the pins in. |
the pins should be salvagable. just getting them out will be the fun part. i suggest spraying a can and a half of PB on the whole brake setup and let that sit. my car had never seen snow and rarely rain and my pins did not want to budge....

Mazda lists the same brake booster for the single piston and four piston cars until the S5 TII.
|
I know that it doesn't include the pins. The seller has the pins and hardware now(he found them). But I called around for fun and nobody had or could get the pins locally. Mazdatrix sells pins for 4$ each. But like I said, the seller found the pins/hardware so I'm all good:D I was still curious about these hardware kits though.

How important are those shims?.... I'm just about finish doing my brakes and those back pieces / little pieces of metal weren't Included. That's why I wanted to see what you were talking about. I have the pins and that little wire you're talking about and that weird looking spring thing to push the pads back
Edit: and thanks! |
W-springs.
