do i have a s5 motor in my s4 car

i took off my egr valve and it was blocked off off from the factory but had holes for it to screw on so i didnt need a block off plate. what are some other ways to tell the difference between the s4 and s5 motor.

and where do they go or what are the square holes right under the intake ports there are three of them.

thank you,
ryan

B: What does the UIM look like? Mechanical or electric OMP? 1 or 2 TPS?

sounds like you have an 89-92 block with all the s4 intake and front cover.i have the same set-up in my 7.

so dose that mean that i need the s5 intake because the lim dosnt look like its fitting that well the squrare holes under the the intake ports on the side on the motor is kinda small on the lim they have huge side holes. The square in the middle two intake ports dosent even have a matching on th lim ( it dosent look like it)

so do i need to start looking for a s5 intake and a s5 ecu

Uhhh, sounds like you have a hybrid. why?

#1) You said under the EGR, there were no holes. This would mean that the center iron housing is S5.

#2) You said that there are THREE holes underneath the intake ports. This would mean that the front and rear iron housings were S4.

The good news is that it doesn't matter what intake you have! The S4 or S5 will work just fine.

The lower holes you are talking about are for the port air. They all go to the same place! If you look at the gasket in the lower picture, you'll see that the gasket has holes for both...

here are some pics of the setup

i dont know why its a "hybrid" i bought this car as a project and i am now finding out how fkd up it is. is this setup compatiable with the s4 ecu and wiring harness

now that i have the acv and egr(which wasnt doing anything except leaking) can i remove the vac rack and the four solenoide valves(see pics)

oztofrdm 09-21-04 08:18 PM

hey i just test fitted my s4 lim and i can feel the lower opening of the gasket under the middle air ports, is this going to allow air to pass through ie. be a vac leak

wozzoom 09-22-04 07:16 AM

I wouldn't say that your car is fk'd up. For some reason your engine was replaced in the past and they used an S5 center housing instead of an S4 housing.

The 3 holes under the intake ports are all parts of the port air system. It sounds like you are removing the ACV and other emissions stuff so these ports will no longer be used. That's the good news.

The bad news is what you noticed with the lower opening of the gasket...That hole leads strait down to the exhaust ports. If you leave it open, you'll have an exhaust leak coming from that hole. You will have to plug the hole on the engine block. Go to the autoparts store and pick up some JB weld.

you can't remove all of the solenoids. One of them controls the fuel pressure regulator...That's kind of important.
