Do i have a Bad ignition?

my car gives me problems, and then other times, it acts normally.

but, recently, after my car is warmed up, itll idle, but, VERY rough, like, my big block pontiac w/ a cam. and also, it Pops in the exhaust at idle, and even at RPM. it misses, the car is jarred, and it pops thru the exhaust, from idle, up to about 3000 rpm.

cuz, ill hold the gas, and itll rev up, and go RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR *shake* POP RRRRRRRRRRR *shake shake* POP POP RRRRRRRRR...

well you get the idea, its a random miss. or something, and i just checked the plugs, wire brushed them. they ahve like 2000 miles on them, NGK platinums.

whats the dillyo?

You mentioned that this happens below 3000 rpm. Greatest load on an ignition is at high rpm WOT. If that is smooth and your power is ok, you probably have a primary injector problem.

actually, primary injector problems would be on par.

my car just started flooding out recently. u think these 2 problems would go hand in hand?

Ohhh Yeahhhh! :D
If an injector leaks, it means that it's pintle no longer properly seats when it closes, or there is a piece of dirt on the seat not allowing the pintle to close completely. Either way, when the pintle opens, there would be a hole/obstruction in the path of the gas being injected, which would cause the gas not to be atomized properly. Result: Misses. Clean and/or replace the primary injectors, imho. ;)

alright, thanks Irv.

would running some injector cleaner in a bottle thru the fuel system take care of this? or is this a big enuf chunk of dirt that i'd need to have it taken out Manually (professionally?)

Well, you have nothing to lose by trying the bottle of cleaner first. BG 44 is very good, and a lot of people like Techron. I just use Amoco Gold gas, and have not had a need for anything yet. If it doesn't work, you're only out a coupla' dollars. Add it to about 1/2 tank for maximum cleaning. I understand RC Engineering does a good job of fixing injectors (much less expensive than new ones).
