Dint pass emmisions :(

What a great day...
Parts are back ordered, dint pass emissions, through out bearing is squeaking like hell.

I have unburnt fuel/oil.
Here are my readings:
THC: 5.51 (nor 2.0) FAIL
NOX: 2.35 (nor 3.70)PASS
CO: 25.2 (nor 32)PASS
CO2: 634.1 (nor ?)PASS

What could cause this?
Think my cat is shot? Air pump not working? Vacune leak?
Really need this car for school sooo any help is we accepted!

J-Rat 04-16-04 01:55 PM

Is that an idle reading?

The Spyder 04-16-04 01:56 PM

Thats a 0-30mph test results.
Good news is that the idle has really smoothed out, dosent hesitate anymore, and is driving great...

J-Rat 04-16-04 02:06 PM

WTF is THC? (besides the active ingredient in weed)

The Spyder 04-16-04 02:09 PM

Toxic Hydro-carbons

Unburnt fuel and oil cause this.

Not the same thc ;). This one not nearly as fun....

J-Rat 04-16-04 02:12 PM

Oh, I am dumb... Hmm How bad you need to pass emissions?

pmr2000 04-16-04 02:41 PM

Those are extremely high-the THC (total? Hydrocarbons) means you are either running too rich or bad cat. My car was running perfectly with a bad cat and the HC reading was 151, new cat brought it down to 15. Make sure you have new plugs, filters, etc., adjust the TPS, check if the cats are rattling around with loose guts.

SonicRaT 04-16-04 02:49 PM

run about a gallon or two of gas with some alcohol, that'll take care of that!

drago86 04-16-04 03:25 PM

Yeah alcohol, and direct air to the cat/ exhaust ports will clean that up.

kleach18 04-16-04 03:26 PM

Just had to update my inspection, here are my readings:D ;) ;)

hc(ppm)
standard = 168
mine = 20

co(%)
standard = 1.08
mine = 0.04

NOx(ppm)
standard =1208
mine = 560

That looks a lot like one of those low emmissions vehicles ;)

I think I ned to get one of those stickers that come on civics ans stuff that say my car is a l.e.v.

Ocelot 04-16-04 03:43 PM

If its really a problem, take it to some shop that does inspections and pay them like $60 and they will pass you.

tong53 04-16-04 03:53 PM

hey i am having the same emmisions problem...i was told that 99.9% of the time it is teh ACV...dont know how true it is but thought i would let you know that

Thats something you wouldn't see on many 7's.
All I can say is thank God I don't have to worry about emmissions, or I'd be screwed.

way to check your cat if you want.

Borrow a pyrometer from a shop, measure catalytic conv. inlet temp, and then the outlet side.

Outlet should be 100deg higher than the inlet

Care to tell us the secret, we already know your mods...WE WANT THE SECRET!
:) :p:

kleach18 04-16-04 04:26 PM

The secret is to accidently place the tester on the wrong car on the emmisions test......

Okay, the HC and CO are nice and low :) ... But the NOx! My god, those are diesel levels! And the standard is 1208?!?!? Really, if I were looking at those emissions numbers by themselves, I would assume it was a diesel with some aftertreatment to knock down the CO...

Out of curiosity, what speed was this run at? Did they load down the engine?

kleach18 04-16-04 05:19 PM

25 mph on a dyno wheel(or whatever its called....

lol....so what kinda car did you use

The Spyder 04-17-04 03:09 PM

They entered it wrong the first time, but caught it :(.

I did a complete tune up of the car 3 weeks ago.
All new fluids, new plugs, air filer, oil filter.

Im thinking the cat is just shot.
Anyone recommend a good cheap cat?

could the fault injectors(leaked) be causing the extra unburned fuel, and high HC? it seems everyone talks about turn up, not injectors as all.

new cat will help in the smog test, but normally, when you fail the test, it means something wrong with your car in somearea. and a new cat will help passing the smog, but also hide the problem, and you will ignore it right after the smog test. eventually, it will get worse, and cost you more to fix. not just a new cat.

just my O2 sense.
