different porting question
 

i have an idea about porting a 6 port, and would like to know if it would work, and if anyone has done it before.

would it be worth it to take the ports on the front and rear irons and make them into one big long port, instead of 2 little ones? basically remove all the metal inside the red area, and smooth it out. i know its been done, but i havent read anybodys experiences.

the motor is going to be run with a racing beat intake and holley carb. on a 6 port with this manifold setup, the car runs on the ports in just the middle iron until the secondaries on the carb are opened up.

from everything ive been able to find, people say that this will hurt your low-end performance, but with the way the carb opens, i think it would be ok.

maybe not immediately but that is a large bridge to gap

how is it more of a gap? all that will be missing is the part of metal between the two stock ports. and if you dont make the port any bigger, it would be just as reliable as a stock port, just flow more air. (in theory) and if you just smooth it out, it would be kinda sorta like a huge long streetport on a turbo motor.

unless theres something im not seeing, it would work. but you never know.

No, bad idea. You'll end up with an engine that screams above 8000RPM, but absolutely sucks down low due to practically no air velocity from the ports...

Would what he's doing be considered a bridge port?

I'm kinda ignorant about ports.

the seal swipes over that area diagonally so the land in between the ports supports the seal still. when i port n/a's i cut that wall down to a hairline but i still leave it in place.
