Series 5 TII Jspec Motor in Series 4 N/A Car? Im screwed...

First off...I DID SEARCH, and got no help from it as usual.

What kinds of problems will I run into when I start this swap? Hopefully the harness is interchangable...but I doubt it, nothings easy with these cars.

Please help me out people!!

Harness does NOT swap over easily.

Is there a writeup for this swap?

RETed 12-01-04 09:55 PM

You didn't find this in a seach???

I don't recommend it.

I already got the motor, I'm all ready to go...i gotta do it...so what do i gotta do?

RETed 12-01-04 10:07 PM

Get these Turbo II parts...

Stock ECU
Main engine harness
Transmission
Driveshaft
Rear diff
Rear axles

Swap all parts with your NA.

Hopefully you can get the same series that matches the stock ECU and main engine harness, as plugging it into your S4 will make things a lot easier.

Well thats what i have...
Series 5:
Engine
Transmission
Rear Diff & Half Shafts
Harness
ECU
MAF Sensor
MAP Sensor

if i get all these parts for a S5 would it work out for me and function like a S5?

WannaSeeMyWankel 12-02-04 06:32 AM

according to the wirte ups about puttin a s5 engine in a s4 car, they tell you to keep the block and switch over everything else......if i just swap all the s5 electronics into my car will it work right?

gotrotors? 12-02-04 06:49 PM

You are correct. The EFI system of a s5 is very different from an s4. High impedence injectors rather than low, ELECTRIC OMP is the biggest difference...and that runs thru the computer...no omp...you get a check engine light. There are many other minor differences between s4 and s5. S5 does not have egr...s5 does not have the dreaded Pulsation damper. As far as wiring is concerned...i would try to get my hands on an s4 motor. Its not really worth the wiring for the 20 whole hp you get with s5. Just get an s4 motor and an s5 turbo and there you go. If you want to keep the s5 motor...you need to strip it down to the block and replace everything you took off with s4 stuff, minus the turbo manifold and turbo...that can stay. If you want to wire it, youre gonna need wiring diagrams for both series...and thats gonna get difficult. If you dont get things right, itll run shitty. Hope that helped. Im currently building an s5 motor for my s4...but im gonna use all the efi shit off my s4 for the s5.

^s5 does have a pulsation dampener...

gotrotors? 12-02-04 08:23 PM

strange....my s5 motor had no traces of a pd. Not even so much as a modifyed fuel rail. Maybe somebody put FD fuel rails on or something. No word of a lie...no PD

WannaSeeMyWankel 12-02-04 08:25 PM

What kind of wiring does it take to use the efi system from the s5? is it plug and play if i have the s5 harness and ecu?

Even FD's have PD's...that fail...
There is no way in hell the FD fuel rail is going to bolt right in.
The FD fuel injectors are radically different (side feed), so the fuel injectors and fuel rails are very different.

As far as the wiring goes, you could also simply get a standalone computer. Perhaps maybe a microtech or haltech and you wouldn't have to worry bout any changing of your s5 motor.

It could actually be your first GOOD performance modification and serve for future upgrades. Of course that is if your mechanically inclined to go this route and have the MONEY to do this. I think you could cut through a lot of crab by going this way. Only problem would still be your oil metering pump. If you want to run electronic OMP, then u might run into problems but i would recommend switching over to mechanical or premix.

Just a suggestion.

LOL i worked at rx7 specialties....and i didnt remember about fd rails. Im stupid tnite. LOL thanks for the correction. Perhaps jspec doesnt have one? Just a suggestion...but seriously there is no pd, i just checked again. Strange hey? It looks factory on both ends of the rail too. Hmmm.

WannaSeeMyWankel 12-03-04 07:47 AM

maybe your car has the banjo bolt to replace the pd, i read somewhere that you can do that...

EndlessRPMs 12-03-04 12:24 PM

so wait. is this a S5 motor going into a S4? if so, i have everything electrical you need minus the harness. contact me on aim at driftedfc3s. btw, i'm also doing a swap. S4 T2 into S5 NA.

sparkscarz 05-03-12 10:43 AM

hey u guys think a S5 N/A gasket kit will work with a S4 N/A? at least some of the gaskets?

RotaryEvolution 05-03-12 10:52 AM

seriously, stop spamming the same fucking question over and over again in unrelated topics!

i at least see you have been doing some research looking at old threads but there is NO need to ask the same question less than 2 minutes apart and in severely old threads that do not even apply to your question.
