Differences between n/a and turbo engines.
 

I'm new to the rotary world and I did do a few searches, but I didn't get my question answered. :)

Anyhow, What are the differences between the n/a and turbo'd rotarys in the 2nd gens? The reason I ask is I am wondering if custom forced induction is possible on an originally N/A engine. Thanks! :D

I belive they are the same engine basicaly but the intake and exhaust are diferent and I guess the ecu has to be different. There is the obvious hp difference. I am pretty dure you can do a custom induction but it is just better to do a swap to the TII engine and everything else like the tranny which is more capable of handling the hp. Any car can have a turbo it is just a matter of $$$$$.;)

I think since you are new to the Rotary thing you should first take some time to find out what you just got into. How long have you had the car? If you just bought it recently get ready for it. First you should get your car back to stock status. Then you should begin the modifications but not sooner because if the car has problems to begin with you will proly make them worse if you don't fix them right away.

About the comment on the transmisions:
the only difference I believe is the fact that the one for the turbo is stronger but they are both the same type of fit. What I am trying to say is that you can just basicaly bolt either transmision on either engine but the turbo can handle more power.

Well I haven't even got the car in question yet. I'm asking these questions to make my final decision. :) Thanks for all the info. :D

In the second gen there are actually 4 (in the us) diffrent engines, two diffrent model years the s4 and s5. The N/A rotors are of higher compression then the turbo rotors. The Exhaust housings are diffrent on the turbo model. If you are thinking of going N/A and just adding turbo... No. don't do it. Save your money and buy a Turbo II and play with that.. You'll save yourself a bunch of cash and alot of headaches.

lol I had forgoten about the S4 and S5 difference.

let me explain the difference the S4 are the 86-88 modles both N/a and TII and the same for the S5 the S4 are somewhat lighter and a bit less powerfull than the S5 carsI for instance have an 87sport and that means it is a S4 N/a it has 146hp and is about 2700lbs stock. the S5 cars are hevier but have more HP than S4.
