Differences between 185hp and 200hp engines?

What are the differences between 185hp and 200hp 13B engines? Are the ports bigger on that 200hp model or is there something with turbo or engine management?

Jager 03-12-05 03:02 PM

Higher compression rotors.

There are actually alot of differences between the engines, but the main ones that concern power output, are that they run 2 more pounds of boost ,with a slightly revised turbo design, and have .5 higher compression ratio.

OK, thanks for the info :)

So for thinking about tuning these engines (turbo and boost would be changed certainly ;) ) the 185hp model would be better, because it has little lower compression ratio and therefore less danger for knocking. Am I right?

But how much can be taken out of 185hp model with stock setup, except boost pressure, fuel pressure and bigger intercooler? 250hp? or even more?

How about on that 200hp model?

not sure what u mean

NOPR 03-12-05 04:58 PM

im sorry i couldnt resist.

don't you guys read? the later model has vtec.

it's in one of the sticky's..

I mean that if I put big intercooler and raise the boost (how much can I ?) as well as fuel pressure to get enough fuel on higher rpms, how much power can be expected?

If you increase the boost to make up for the lost compression ratio you will be just as likely to detonate (minus the intercooler effect). As aaron cake has shown, 9.7:1 rotors with boost puts out significant power with boost.

Only if you're shooting for a lot of power and hence need a lot of boost. For a modded street car, a bit less boost and a bit more compression will result in a more flexible and driveable engine with the same amount of power.

so the S4 engine is a better platform to build up then the S5?

or hybrid frankenstien all the way? :P

RexRyder 03-13-05 02:09 AM

only one way to find out

Tee Koo 03-13-05 04:46 AM

How much is the normal boost pressure on 185hp model? How high I can turn it with normal turbo, but bigger front mount intercooler?

RexRyder 03-13-05 05:45 AM

jus cuz you have a bigger intercooler doesnt mean you can boost more. u need stuff like a FCD, fuel, exhaust would probably be good too. PLEASE SEARCH!!

I know that I need these, but I though they were so obvious that I didn't mention them. With bigger intercooler the temperature of the boosted air is lower and therefore there is little less danger for knocking, that's why I'm asking how then I could put boost? (if fueling and ignition timing is set properly, as well as good exhaust and intake)

How much is the boost stock?
